'11 QB Stephen Rivers

I have a family member that reviews and edits high school recruits from all over the country. I know this won't mean much to most of you, but I trust his opinion. He worked on Rivers' film recently and said despite some negative reports from people he knew in the area, the kid looks great on film. He has real football instincts, a great arm, good mobility, good size etc. Basically he told me he saw Rivers doing things you never expect to see with a high school kid, like reading defenses on the fly, adjusting WR routes, anticipating breaks and cuts of WRs, so on and so on. He was very impressed.

Being an Ole Miss fan he hopes they go after him. But he did admit Rivers liked Tennessee and that Bama was always a serious contender for kids in that area. So we'll see. But he's going to be a good QB.

If it is a battle between UT and UA, UT will win this one. Apparantly our previous staff during his brothers recruitment turned the family sour against UA. That is why I do not think we go after him. If we did Saban would really have to sell the family hard.

I've heard that too. Phillip Rivers is not a fan. But you never know with Bama being so popular in that area. Little brother may have forgotten all about it.

I've been told by more than a few people that Rivers is the #1 guy on the board "right now" among the '11 QB prospects.

UT does OK in north Alabama, I am not really concerned if this kid thinks he has a shot at UT. Bama would have a lot of work to do for a recovery on this one. Also, UT will have a more dynamic offense next year than Alabama's. They will use more of a conservative run game. He will get to choose between the apples and oranges and the oranges will be sweeter offensively.

can't blame Bama for being more conservative with the two running backs I saw last night both coming back. That's going to be a very dangerous combo. Ingram has already won the Heisman and his backup Richardson looked even better.

I pray we get some good LBs in to stop that crew.

Ingrim is the only Heisman winning back I've ever seen that was the second best back on his own team. The only reason he won was because Bama was ranked #1 in the nation.

I got blasted on my boards over the summer when I said TR will be better than MI. Even MI has said that TR is better then him when he was a freshman.

Richardson is better than Ingram now, apples to apples, not just when Ingram was a freshman.

With 364 days until the next National Signing Day, Rivers, likes most quarterback prospects in the current climate, doesn't want to be a player who decides the night before.

"I kind of want to keep an open mind for everything, but I wouldn't want to wait until the last day, a year from today to (sign)," Rivers said.

Rivers, who stands 6-foot-6, is two inches taller than his NFL Pro-Bowl brother Phillip, already has offers from Tennessee, Arizona State and N.C. State and is gaining significant interest from several more.

Tennessee was the first school to offer the Athens, Ala. star and although there is a new staff in Knoxville Rivers is hoping that offer still stands.

"As far as I know, the guy recruiting me, Lance Thompson, he's still there. So, as far as I know, I haven't talked to anyone from there yet, I would hope it is still there. I'm looking forward to getting to know the new crew and everything," Rivers said. "I still get letters and info, so I think I'm still on the list."

Along with Thompson, Rivers met with staff holdover Jim Chaney in the fall and after hearing the news that former Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin left for USC, his future recruitment with the Vols came directly to his mind.

"I obviously thought about the scholarship right when he left, that was on my mind, how that stood or whatever," Rivers said. "But, I was just thinking about how I need to get to know the new coach they hired and get things rolling on that."

Rivers took visits to Tennessee, Auburn and Ole Miss in the fall, and said that he wouldn't mind playing in the South.

Rivals

Hey, Rex....am I wrong in saying that it sounds like this kid WANTS to be a Vol???

just saw his Rivals film...I am all for getting this guy on board and call it a day at QB....looks like a taller more advanced Philip rivers at this stage....Very Impressive arm strength, accuracy, mobility, and throwing on the run....Legit

If we want him, we will get him. Phillip Rivers wanted to play for the Vols, but Fulmer never offered. To my knowledge, both grew up UT fans.

UT fans are abundant here in Athens and I know for a fact this kid is a big vol fan, my daughter knows him and goes to school with him. He is a coaches son and should have a good year. Big kid with very long arms.
