'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

It is great that he loves UT but it would be nice to have a few 4* and 5* recruits on board. Is Dooley only going to land 3* recruits?

Pat Martin is doing some serious work...this is the 4th recruit I have heard him trying to persuade...

Coming to three games this season also...2 on his own dime...

Thanks E.Berry...I don't think safety is a recruiting concern anymore...2 for this class and still in on a few highly ranked players...

Our secondary has been stacked for years, now that front 7 has to get more talented. Even with the lack of talent at the LB position and the lack of depth at DT, our D will be stout and keep us in games. I think Greg King will be special and I hope Askew isnt a bust like Chris Donald, hurts to mention his name.

FWIW, since i already said i talked to him last night, he said he's "engaged to UT, but not quite married yet." also said that he doesn't want to be the next Eric Berry, but wants to be better and make his own legacy.

i dont think its all that funny... i mean sure EB was great but would you expect him to say, "well ya' know i think i'd like to be a good player but i sure as hell dont want to be better than that eric berry guy"

of course he wants to be better. and to be a good football player you have to be confident in your abilities and believe your the best. if you dont you wont be worth squat on the field

lol i thought the same, but made sure not to say it. i guess you never know though.

Yeah, ya never know.

It's not like we all haven't said "No one will ever be better than X player," and then someone eventually comes along and is.

I, for one, would LOVE to see Martin be as good as Berry, but Berry seems to be one of those "once in a generation" type players.

Let's hope and pray that Martin comes in and is comparable to Berry in his production.

Obviously the idea of being better than Berry is great. However, Berry is a once in a generation player. The chances of him being better than Berry are minuscule.

EDIT: I guess there's always a chance, but he would have to develop like no defensive back has developed in many, many years.

Berry was the highest ranked Defensive Back in the history of Rivals. The chances of a very solid prospect coming in and being better than Eric Berry are minuscule.

i strongly disagree with your last sentence.... i know i know berry was one of the best ever. but to say ZERO percent chance is a little outlandish. you just never know how a player will turn out

you may be right, but it won't be because Berry was the highest ranked Defensive Back in the history of Rivals.

Just remember, Ed Reed was the best DB Miami had seen and their fans thought no one could come along better, then POW, Sean Taylor ...
Not saying this is the same, but There's always a chance, no matter how small it is.

bet, my dude.

normally i would agree that EB was a once in a generation player. HOWEVER, that is not true for this genereation for I can think of two that are "better than I(Eric Berry) was at that age."

HINT: their names end with berry.

He didn't say that he would be better than Berry. He said that he wanted to be. If that serves as motivation for him, go for it. I think that is the attitude you need.

I have a feeling Pat is going to really start the commit ball rolling later this month.

I really think this class could blow up by October and be up near 20 commits.

The only thing that scares me about this years recruiting class is the upcoming season. It has the potential to get really bad really quick. Which leads me to my next point. What recruit is going to want to come to a school that has a 5-7 record? I could be wrong. I hope I am, but opposing coaches will definitely use that against us and it could have a legitimate impact on this year's recruiting class and upcoming classes if Dooley does not get this ship straightened out and quick.
