There is one more in state defensive back/athlete prospect sure to fly under the radar but is worth paying attention to. Derek King a 5’10” 180 pound defensive back/athlete from Brentwood Academy. King is sure to draw more interest as the season nears. He may be one of the best “athletes” playing football in the state as King is a very accomplished track star. Auburn has already shown interest. From "X".

I am all for going for speed for a DB. They dont have to be able to catch and footwork etc can be coached, speed like that cant.

If King came in 2nd, lets also find the guy that came in first...

King is not only a football player, but a track star as well. He is arguably the fastest kid in the state of Tennessee, running a 10.7 100M and a 4.32 40 yard dash. His track exploits have helped him get noticed on the gridiron.

One would expect that since the Vols were the 1st school to pull the trigger that they would be at the top of his list, and they are high on his list. However King is still going to keep his options open at this point. "I put Tennessee on my list pretty high" said King.

"It's close to home, but I am still going to keep my options open right now. I'm also hearing from Auburn, Georgia and Alabama. I plan on camping at those 4 schools in addition to going to the Nike combine in Atlanta. I would like to hear more from Ohio State, I camped there last year and I like what they are about and Ole Miss, my dad played for them and I would like to hear more from Ole Miss."

Brentwood Academy is a pipeline to the state of Alabama honestly. It takes less time to go to Bama, than it does to Knoxville.

“He wants to keep the best players in his state at home at the University of Tennessee,” King said. “He really seems focused on returning to all the traditions of the past for Tennessee Football. Last year they seemed to get away from a lot of them. It’s good to see him returning to them.”

“I love all their traditions,” King said. “Some of the greatest players of the game have played there such as Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis and Reggie White.”

“My top five are Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia,” King said. “I plan on committing to the school of my choice by early August.”

Per Scout...

He just picked up a Vandy offer. Honestly, I can't see UGA, Bama, or Aubun offering him considering all the DB talent they have in-state. He should be the Vols' to lose.
