VolFanInIndiana, I understand your opinion but if we followed you advice we would be in a terrible position, even worse than our current predicament

He spews this high horse crap in every thread. Ignore button fans unite. He has no idea what he is talking about.

Let's not even try to spin this as it's anything to do with time frame. This is the 3rd guy just recently to loose his place. The time frame obviously had nothing to do with the other 2 that were cut loose. They were already Vols. (In their mind and per scout and rivals anyway).
I GET YOU! Chill! LOL! And yes it's hypocritical, UT not semi-honoring the offer (I think that the guaradian and the kid should have gotten the time table of the offer and I wanted the kid to play for us too), But it is what it is CDD has to do whats best for the program and if he could get a better kid for the UT I understand! Their is mis-comunications on both parties hands (and i am not talking about Power or Juda) I really hate it for the Child he got his feelings hurt and he 17,18yrs old, but he is a man-child and everything isn't going to go your way and he should have gotten more clearity on the situation! If that was my child I have been involved and tried to avoid my child with egg on his face.

No, In no way did I call the kid a liar. Maybe you need to read my post again. What it says is I think the STAFF telling the kid he waited too long is just not being honest. Yes, I said the STAFF is not being honest.
And you know this how? Do you make a habit of presuming people are lying and accusing them of lying without one ounce of proof?
The kid could have said he was a Vol from the day they offered and as we have seen of late with several recruits...if they could get a higher rated kid..his spot would be GONE reguardless if he commited or not.
And that is reality. Every school does it. One of the first things Kiffin did when he took over is tell some guys to go away.
Yes, I know..I know...It's just the way it is. I wonder if we are looking to recruit over Arnett?
Yes.
Maybe we can land Farmer and tell DA to head to USC. LOL I just want to see the spin on here when the staff cuts a couple guys loose the night before signing day.

Every recruit knows this is the way it is just like every coach knows that a kid might pick up a different hat after being verbally committed for months. A written commitment is basically a contract... and either side can back out while negotiations are still going on. Only signatures on paper actually seal the deal.

You really need to get over this or choose a different sport to follow. What part of EVERY SCHOOL DOES IT do you not get? What part of EVERY SCHOOL HAS RECRUITS CHANGE THEIR COMMITS do you not get? What part of THIS IS THE ACCEPTED WAY THINGS ARE do you not get?

Do you want Dooley to get the best available players or not? Do you never want him to decide that a player is not right for the program after considering it or watching them more? Are you really that satisfied being at the level of Vandy, Ole Miss, and UK?

Sounds more like King should have talked to the staff first before committing in public. There was a situation either last year or in the 2009 cycle(can't remember) where a Georgia HS player was making a long drive with his family to Athens to commit to UGA in person and when he got there he was told his offer had already been pulled. In King's case it doesn't make sense to me to tell somebody of a commitment without the coaching staff being the first to know of said commitment. Technically if somebody says they've committed, but the staff doesn't know, it's not a commitment. It's just a person saying where they wanna go.

There is a big difference in cutting loose a committed player and not taking a commitment from a prospect to whom an offer had been given months before. Although the whole situation was unfortunate and certainly embarrassing for King, he made a mistake in announcing his commitment before calling the coaching staff.

As I understand it, Derek not only had a committable offer, but was at the top of our board at CB for a long time. However once we were able to watch some of his play this year, it became evident that his coverage skills were well below what we thought they were, leading us to drop him down substantially on our board. Had King or those around him been a reader of recruiting boards such as this one or VQ, he would have been aware of that situation and I am sure he would have handled it differently.

In the end, both the UT Staff and King tried to minimize the embarrassment as much as possible, and the next morning Derek committed to Vandy, where he not only will likely be a top player but also get a very valuable education to prepare him for life after football should he not play after college.

I see nothing wrong in how the staff handled this.

I will say that if he did want to commit to Tennessee he may have been caught in a numbers crunch as some have alluded too...Vandy is getting a kid who will be very solid for them...
