Otherwise...why would the kid not call and speak to the staff before going public with his decision? I get the fact this fake offer thing goes on at alot of schools....that does not make it ok.

kids do call and get it cleared with the staff before going public. When Fulmer was here, a kid in Louisville neglected to do that and he had his announcement. But he didn't have a commitable offer. Fulmer had him make a retraction.

Very few kids have an announcement without first informing several schools what they are about to do.

Stone called Saban and told him he was coming to Tennessee prior to calling Dooley to tell him he was coming. Which all happened prior to public statements.

Something else to think about. I see alot of topics talking about new recruits and why the staff has not offered them. Alot of people claim the staff is looking at them or considering them..and an offer will come or maybe they will not get one. With the way this staff has been recruiting with fake offers....why not just call and offer every recruit in the country? Maybe we could then get in 1st on some and then the lower rated ones we can just stop answering calls from. Hey, I'm sure some would be down for it. LOL

Dude, clearly football recruiting is not for you. Have you considered following the lady vols golf team...I hear they never make a scholarship offer that is not committable.

Stop responding to him, it's clear that he doesn't know of anything he is talking about. He doesn't know what goes in the recruiting world, doesn't know what the coaches tells the kids regarding the offers, etc... Just let him live in his fairyland.

No, actually my only issue is the recruiting and the cutting kids with OFFERS loose after telling them they could be a Vol. And to your comment about Offers are given with the explanation that they are dependent on this or that happening is someting I doubt. you really need to look at other sports, not just football, I know D2 schools who cut most of their team if they do not do well and get new kids in. I can guarantee you this was not brought up in the recruiting process. Schollies are year to year anyways. Only in D1 football or some other major sports do the scholarships even last more than a year. You are not ignorant, but you are naive.

Pretty sure scholarships are on a year to year basis in D1 too. Coaches don't have to renew your scholarship each year.

Why would you doubt it other than you don't want it to be true? It IS true that it happens at UT and every other big time school.

Apparently that isn't what happened. Brent Hubbs seems to have had direct contact with him and squashed this rumor.

And yes... the kid should always call first.

If you were offered a job and told the employer that you would think about it... wouldn't you call them back and make sure the offer was still good before announcing to the world (including your current employer) that you were quitting?

These kids do or should understand that while they're "thinking about an offer", committable or not, the coaches are out recruiting equal or better players who can take up their spot.

So what's your excuse for the staff telling Parker and Power thanks but no thanks? Both of them were not thinking about being a Vol...they were ALREADY Vols as far as they knew. That was until the staff thought they may land a little higher rated player.

While your talking jobs, consider this.
You accept a job offer and tell everyone else who you had talked to about employment that you have taken a job and will have to decline the position they are offering. Your set to start in 2 weeks, Oh wait! We changed our minds....we found someone we liked better. Sorry! You think you would have the same response if it were happening to you? I mean it is the way it is..stop crying...LOL

I understand most feel that this is the way recruiting is. Maybe that thinking is the problem to begin with. Some tend to value ethics and "high character" while others just use it as a sound bite. High character is something you can chose to display, not just speak of.

Keep me informed, if those darn golf coaches yank any offers....I'm on it. :eek:lol:

I guess if you made a commitment and hired someone and then after 6 months you determined was not a fit at all to do what you hired them for you would suck it up and just continue to pay them to not do the job? For how long? 5 years?

IMO, it is far better to recognize a kid can't play for your program and cut him loose before he signs, then to bring him in and let him sit around for 5 years unhappy.

Actually the coaches asked Parker to decommit because he had never been to campus, and I believe Dooley wants kids to visit campus first. Plus the distance from home for him was a concern for the coaches as well.

Morally and ethically you are right. In a perfect world, the coach would get the player he wants and not have to cover his butt in case he does not fill the class by offering kids that aren't the actual kids he wants. This is not a perfect world, though.

As for the business analogy. If you think that after you are hired your company is not constantly, on atleast a monthly basis, looking at your job (no matter if you are a bottom dweller, officer, or VP) to see if it can be replaced, outsourced, downsized or given to a person who will take less pay then you are living in a fantasy.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but if you're an employ your are overhead and at the end of the day you are viewed that way only.

Well, in the corporate world that's called a layoff. Two weeks notice.

This just goes to show you that a person too far to one side, VolFanInIndiana, and someone on the complete other side, SGM/FijiVol, can frustrate you whether its politics or recruiting.

wouldnt surprise me. didnt he apparently committ to UT before an audience at his school a couple days ago, and then there was confusion on whether Dooley accepted it. Id be pissed too if I got turned down.
