UT is forced to vacated 11 wins as part of their self initiated reporting of rules violation to the NCAA. This is truly unfortunate and angers me beyond words!

“That includes wins over UTC, Mississippi State, South Carolina, UAB, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Indiana in 2019, and wins over South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt in 2020.”

Am I the only one that is pissed about vacating these wins?

This certainly wasn’t necessary, UT should have used the millions that they paid in attorney’s fee to buy out Fulmer, Pruitt. and staff. Then hired a new AD and HC. They have tarnished the reputation, image and brand for no reason.

You can bet the farm that had Pruitt been winning like JH has done in his first few seasons then the violations are ignored, covered up or minimized by Plowman and never reported fully to the NCAA and a law firm isn’t hired to investigate. All self inflicted wounds by Plowman.

Plowman is extremely fortunate that they struck gold with JH; otherwise, she’s long gone at UT.

I’m ecstatic that UT has found an experienced AD who hired an excellent coach and they have the Vols heading in the right direction, but all these self inflicted wounds aren’t necessary, and handled differently UT doesn’t vacate these wins, just my thoughts.

From what I’ve read, there was a whistleblower from within the AD who brought the allegations to Plowman so she had a decision to make. If she had swept it under the rug and simply fired everyone normally then she would be taking a big risk that that person wouldn’t go above her or leak it to the media etc. If the NCAA had found out, UT’s punishment would have potentially been much worse. I was mad too initially but I think she did the right thing.

I’m not pissed. Big deal, I mean, we were terrible then anyway and just because we vacate a win, it doesn’t mean the opponent gets a win.
I’m just looking forward to when everyone stops talking about it all and moves the heck on forward. So many more important things to worry about.

I completely disagree OP. Our administration was handed a sh!t sandwich. No matter what they did…it wasn’t going to taste good.

I think it was handled as well as possible. In fact, better than could be expected under the circumstances.

11 wins from two mediocre seasons…while protecting the future? Great job if you ask me.

Gunner, I disagree. Strongly.

She did the right thing. Firing Pruitt and all the other guilty parties was the right thing. Telling the kids who took under-the-table money to move on was the right thing.

And once she took those steps, there was really no hiding it from the world. At that point, the NCAA was bound to start their own investigation. Three people can keep a secret only if two of them are dead. A whole lotta people knew the secret at that point. It was certainly gonna come out. Best to take it on directly, not attempt to whimper past. That just invites more pain later.

Bottom line is, she acted with integrity. And in doing so, provided a great role model for everyone who works at or attends the University of Tennessee.

Go Vols!

Yep nothing burger. Remember when Saban had to Vacate wins his first year, they had a crummy record anyway but since then they've been on top.

So you feel she should have tried to sweep it under the rug and pretend it did not happen? Do you realize that could have led to death penalty level sanctions had that been uncovered. The actions the staff took prevented MUCH worse penalties being enacted. Did you note that there were over 200 individual violations in the list of charges. Any anger you should have should be solely directed at Beldar the conehead. Plowman did not disgrace the university, Pruitt did.

An administrator did what was legally, technically and morally correct for all involved and OP has a problem with it? Come on now. When was the last time you read someone in charge of a major institution did something morally right? If you want lack of integrity, moral degeneracy and plain old corruption just look at Washington D.C.

So do the teams we beat get to vacate the losses?

No. They keep their L.

Vacated wins is the dumbest thing they ever came up with. Unless they strip a conference or national title but even then it’s not like people forget who won a game. Does anyone really say USC didn’t win a NC in 2003 because Reggie Bush’s parents had their rent paid? No.

Besides, when the NCAA finally folds every team that has ever vacated wins will add them right back to the record books. Most schools still include them in their programs and media guides anyway. It’s only on the NCAA records.

Absolutely disagree. If Plowman hadn’t handled it like she did, UT would be staring down the barrel of a 2 to 3 year bowl ban and other penalties that would have set the program back 10 years. The NCAA response basically said the response was exemplary and well beyond what they expected and that’s the only reason we avoided drastic sanctions. I could care less about forfeiting those 11 wins. In the grand scheme of things, they mean nothing.

One thing that I wish would have happened is the players that got paid and moved on to other schools......That those schools be affected too by playing the players at that time that had be paid. Just saying that because at the time those players would be considered ineligible to play. I realize that they jumped ship and moved on....but it just seems like schools that took the "paid players" could have been looked at too.

Yes, you are the only one, considering what might/could of happen. I am good; let's move on and support the future and forget the past.

Pretty textbook thing to do. I hate that we put ourselves in the position to fall out of the Top 10 over the last 15 years more than I hate them vacating 11 wins

What I found interesting from all the fallout that's not being mentioned a lot was Pruitt's role in all this. He basically made a plea to the NCAA to do whatever to him just don't punish the current players. Whatever his motivations for that were that's a decent move.
