11 wins vacated

Bullsheeeet Alert:

Pruitt told investigators he was thinking about the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor when he helped a player's mother with some bills. Pruitt said the woman had come to him pleading for help because of financial hardships during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Then you throw in George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, okay, so you sit there as a white man and you see all of this going on and you can see these kids suffering," Pruitt told investigators, via Knox News.

I am upset about vacating wins, regardless of whether it was during a time when we were winning or losing. At first I was happy with the sanctions we got, but after I found out about the vacated wins, it put a damper on my feelings about the sanctions. These vacated wins now drop us behind Georgia in all time wins and drop us out of the top 10 (to 11th) in all time wins. I don't begrudge Plowman or any one else in the administration for their handling of this once they found out. They handled it in exactly the right way, imho. That whistle blower could have easily gone directly to the NCAA or the media and then our goose would have really been cooked. Remember, it's not the bad deed that gets you into big trouble, it's the lying and cover-up after the fact that will cook your goose. Just ask Bruce Pearl and Richard Nixon.

I still count them

Just don't acknowledge them

It's a bs penalty anyway

What I found interesting from all the fallout that's not being mentioned a lot was Pruitt's role in all this. He basically made a plea to the NCAA to do whatever to him just don't punish the current players. Whatever his motivations for that were that's a decent move.

Yep, you can be a bad coach and not be a bad person. Maybe he's both, but his actions here say otherwise.

If wins need to be vacated because of participation by ineligible athletes, shouldn't all games including the losses also be vacated?

I mean, that would be common sense.

A few comments:

1. Fulmer was given the choice of resigning with a partial buy out or being fired with cause. Thankfully, he took the less messy option...

2. Fulmer failed miserably in all his aspects as AD. He ignored the obvious and well-known character concerns with Pruitt, he extended him after poor on field results, created a culture where cheating ran rampant, and fell behind rivals in revenue. UGA, Bama, LSU had the financial strength to tell NCAA to F off. We didn't, largely because of Fulmer'a actions....

Fulmer and Hamilton were in over their heads as athletic directors and Davenport did not distinguish herself as a chancellor.

Self inflicted wounds is correct. Our hirings at AD and at the head football coach position have been absolutely atrocious up till White and Heupel. Way too much booster interference and incompetence in our AD up till recently.

UT is forced to vacated 11 wins as part of their self initiated reporting of rules violation to the NCAA. This is truly unfortunate and angers me beyond words!

“That includes wins over UTC, Mississippi State, South Carolina, UAB, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Indiana in 2019, and wins over South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt in 2020.”

Am I the only one that is pissed about vacating these wins?

This certainly wasn’t necessary, UT should have used the millions that they paid in attorney’s fee to buy out Fulmer, Pruitt. and staff. Then hired a new AD and HC. They have tarnished the reputation, image and brand for no reason.

You can bet the farm that had Pruitt been winning like JH has done in his first few seasons then the violations are ignored, covered up or minimized by Plowman and never reported fully to the NCAA and a law firm isn’t hired to investigate. All self inflicted wounds by Plowman.

Plowman is extremely fortunate that they struck gold with JH; otherwise, she’s long gone at UT.

I’m ecstatic that UT has found an experienced AD who hired an excellent coach and they have the Vols heading in the right direction, but all these self inflicted wounds aren’t necessary, and handled differently UT doesn’t vacate these wins, just my thoughts.

Plowman isn’t “fortunate.” The lion’s share of the credit goes to Danny White and the various coaching staffs, to be sure, but that success doesn’t happen without support from the top. It all starts with Randy Boyd and Plowman.

The Vols proposed to forfeit 11 wins 2 years ago and the NCAA agreed. I don't think the leadership thought the NCAA was forcing something the Vols had already proposed.
Didn't know that. It still sucks. BTW, those are vacated games, not forfeits.

You saw the games you know who won. Don’t let the NCAA pretend like they have the ability to alter the past

As someone has already said, we will get those back quick and in a hurry.
My prediction is, we will catch back up with USCw in a matter of 5 to 10 years.

But catching up with UGa, that is a taller order. Could take a few decades. Maybe not in many of our lifetimes.

We will likely pass Nebraska before we catch up to UGa, and the Cornhuskers currently sit on a 56-game lead.

My brother went to UTC. He is having some fun with this. Despite the fact we beat them 45-0 my brother is "bragging" about the win now. It is all good fun.

I'll be dead by then. Lets hope those schools ahead of us have some down years like we suffered.
