'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

Salako is no panacea. He may not ultimately even be talented enough to help us one lick. I just don't see where the oline production is coming from next year especially if we experience injuries. Day one starters don't grow on trees and I don't see any committed to us.The bowl game will be a decent gauge.

If UT improves in 2015 probably rides on if the offensive line improves. If it doesn't it'll probably be 6-6 for 2015 and a return of the venom of 2012.

I had thought along Barnett and Hendrix were our DT recruits to be candid.

Then again I thought Hendrix would outshine Everybody and Scott would be the better back. I thought Gaulden would be start at corner all year. So, yea....

Second this. I clearly recall people losing their sh!t over Strip and the DL in 2013, specifically DT recruiting.

A year later, we have 2 5-star DTs on the way.

Ain't worried bout nothin

braver dude than me. i have 2 concerns. QB and oline depth.

The fact that the coaches aren't going after Salako or trying to poach players from Wisconsin or Nebraska gives me confidence in the theory that they expect Blair to live up to his potential next year. I really don't think they would be redshirting him if they didn't believe he would be a big contributor. If he was truly a bust, you try to free up his scholarship as soon as possible, not keep him on scholarship for another year.

That's a good point, but at the end of the day, we line up two tackles, and after Gilliam's injury, we lined up arguably the worst set of bookends in years. So even if Blair is an asset next year- which I agree, they wouldn't redshirt him if they projected otherwise- we still need someone to protect (most likely) the blind side. Another tackle who has starting experience is, from an outside perspective, PRECISELY what this team needs to take a big step next year. I greatly admire Butch's process, but I'm a little perplexed on this one. If he gets here and one of the incumbents beats him out, well, we saw this year how important quality depth is.

Glad I wasn't making that up. For a second I was like "that did happen right?" I doubt any of the people that didn't remember it posted anything stupid about strip then. That's a good thing for you guys lol

It absolutely happened. Each year a different coach. Interested to see who it will be 2015

You guys have bad memory

I remember it well. There were many on here flipping **** over our DL recruiting and even questioning Strip. "He was supposed to be a great coach and recruiter." "He better start earning his money." I'm hoping Mahoney turns it around like Strip has...

I think he was joking.

And on VN height is the only thing that matters for an OT. 6'5"+ and you are a good OT. 6'4" and below you are an OG. Except Coleman Thomas. He is 6'5"+ but not suitable for OT and is perfect at C......

I believe you have figured it out.

Or they have no use for a UAB player here.

This is not Dooley. We dont need more scrubs on the roster.

Let Butch do his job and chill the heck out on the OT nonsense.

No. Volnation knows more about OL coaching and OT measurables than the entire UT coaching staff.

Remember when everyone was concerned with our DTs/DT recruiting. "Strip may not be here long term" "Strip can't recruit" they said. :eek:lol:

Let our staff do their thing guys chilllllll. OT will work out

Also, said the same bull about Jancek last year. "I'm not sold on Jancek". I have heard "I'm not sold on...." till I am sick of it.

2013: "Coach Strip sucks"

*Brings in two All-SEC players to start at DE*

2014: "Coach Strip is elite"

Classic VN.

In the words of Zach Azzanni on NSD after signing three 4 and 5-star WRs, "We became better coaches today."

Remember, Mack Brown and Phil Fulmer were "elite" coaches until they got lazy in recruiting.

So much truth is this statement. The top players have to believe they will get developed well by their position coaches and coordinators as well.

Committed to OK St. The same OK St that beat Oklahoma this year despite their illustrious pass rush. Also the same Oklahoma that also recruited Salako. So it's pretty clear the dude was not a chump.

Sometimes it pays to be first. That appears to be the case for Oklahoma State as the young and depth challenged Cowboys offensive line gained some tremendous new support in the form of Alabama-Birmingham transfer Victor Salako, who has said he will enroll at OSU for the spring semester.

Salako will be a junior with two seasons to play. Following UAB's announcement last week that it was dropping football the Blazers starting offensive left tackle for all 12 games this past season was approached first by Oklahoma State.
The 6-6, 320-pound native of Huntsville, Ala., and Grissom High School just completed an official visit to Stillwater and OSU by telling the Cowboys he is coming for the spring semester.
"My visit went great. It was awesome," Salako said while on his way home. "I committed to them and will enroll for the next semester.
"It was all about the environment and how the players were great and easy to get to know and get along with. The fans, you can tell they love OSU football. The coaches made me feel really comfortable. I have a great relationship with the offensive line coach, coach Connelly. My parents really liked coach Connelly when he came to visit."
Salako said he was really only recruited by UAB coming out of high school, but after a redshirt season he played in reserve in every game his redshirt freshman season and then started every game this season for a team that averaged 33.2 points, 431.9 yards of total offense, and 212.1 yards rushing per game.
Salako really looks the part of a big time offensive tackle. He said the list was long of schools that contacted him after Oklahoma State, including Oklahoma, Miami (Fla.), Louisville, Nevada, Utah State, San Diego State, and Western Kentucky.

Starting at OK State doesn't necessarily mean he would have started at Tennessee.
