'12 AL OT Victor Salako (UAB player)

Height doesn't hurt an offensive tackle.

I think he was joking.

And on VN height is the only thing that matters for an OT. 6'5"+ and you are a good OT. 6'4" and below you are an OG. Except Coleman Thomas. He is 6'5"+ but not suitable for OT and is perfect at C......

This article says as a RS Freshman he was second team all conference. SMDH. I hope our coaches have what they need next year. Ok St. is no scrub program.

Salako said before the end of the call that he was looking forward to coming to Oklahoma State to check out the program and was anxious to find out where he would continue his college football career.
The Alabama native of Grissom High School in Hintsville, has had a strong career at UAB starting all 12 games this season for the Blazers, who were bowl eligible at 6-6 but did not get a bid after the program was dropped. He played in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman following sitting out his true freshman season. He is a second-team All-Conference USA Academic award winner from last season.

I guess the Tennessee coaching staff has no problem with how poor the offensive line is.

Or they have no use for a UAB player here.

This is not Dooley. We dont need more scrubs on the roster.

Let Butch do his job and chill the heck out on the OT nonsense.

The offensive tackle stuff is not nonsense. UT needs a few obviously because the offensive line is like a turnstyle at the airport. You can't be a scrub and be picked up by Oklahoma State, they're a major school

Am I in the football forum right now? Our staff is aware of our problem. If they don't like a player they don't need to recruit them. They're not going to recruit someone who they don't think can contribute.

That honor was based on Salako's GPA, not his performance on the field.

FWIW, Conference USA announced their All-Conference team as selected by the head coaches on Tuesday. There are 5 offensive linemen on the 1st team, 6 on the 2nd team, and 12 were named honorable mention so a total of 23 were recognized. Salako was not one of them.

And they have been so competent with the O-line development - right? So much so they had to play a guy with an ACL as a starter just as soon as he could halfway play. For some reason that true freshman C they started all those games at OT wasn't getting the job done.

This staff has proven zero when it comes to the O-line.

Tell me what your starting OL would look like if you were coaching, and I'll tell you if I think it would look any better. They are doing what they can with what they have. I'm not saying we wouldn't be a little better off with Pittman, but even with him coaching, our OL would still be in the bottom half of the SEC. My initial comment was referring to all the people complaining about our coaching staff not recruiting this kid from UAB. If they don't think he is a good fit or worth a scholarship, I'm behind them. We have had some tough luck recruiting offensive tackles this year, but some if you act as if they're not trying to land any.

Landing recruits doesn't work like spoiled 5 year olds in the mall pointing out toys they want for Xmas to their mom either. If some of you posters had your way, we would have given out 10,000 bids by now.

I honestly believe it doesn't really matter at this point anyways. It's too late to bring in new guys with hopes of immediately improving the OL. We're going to have to ride the guys we already have and hope for the best until some of the underclassmen mature and develop. The 1 deep of the OL should be as good or better with Blair next year. We've got that going for us.

The fact that the coaches aren't going after Salako or trying to poach players from Wisconsin or Nebraska gives me confidence in the theory that they expect Blair to live up to his potential next year. I really don't think they would be redshirting him if they didn't believe he would be a big contributor. If he was truly a bust, you try to free up his scholarship as soon as possible, not keep him on scholarship for another year.

Was about to post that same thing. You definitely try to get the guy out of here faster if he wasn't going to work out.

I wasn't saying that. I've been saying Strip is our best coach, which he has proven he is. We cannot lost Strip.

People say that now, but last year there were multiple freakout threads about DT recruiting. That coupled in with McCullers not really playing great and our DEs sucking had people freaking out. If I wasn't lazy I would've linked it.

You're right though Strip's resume speaks for itself.
