'12 AL S Trae Elston

That's why I'm not a big fan of this Gray commit. We need a tight end, and Diggs and Elston are still takes. I don't doubt Gray's a good player, but it confuses me a bit.

This is me with recruiting:

Too many things going on behind the scenes we don't know about. I'll trust the staff as evaluators and managers to fill the slots with the best prospects, and figure out the numbers. Word is a couple of folks have already been prepped on the greyshirt/preferred walk-on route...

Gray's a four star talent that just hasn't been evaluated yet. On top of that his potential is great seeing he's only been playing for two years. He also is 4.3 guy that plays physical.

I'm not so sure about Gray myself

I mean, look at all these guys on here that say they are concerned that have never seen him play nor heard of him prior to today.

They got to know more than the coaching staff

I will feel better once they give their stamp of approval

I'm not doubting he's a good player. I just know both Diggs and Elston would be takes, and both really like the Vols. We've got to land Meredith if he does leave UNC, so I'm assuming they'll choose between Diggs and Elston. Recruiting = one big mess.

I would choose Elston over Diggs.. I think he is a better prospect.

So i guess with the Gary commit we will not be getting Elston? Anybody got any info??

Elston is a safety and Gray is a cb, so I don't see Gray's commitment affecting Elston's recruitment at all. Even with the shortage of available scholarships, I believe we will continue to aggressively go after Elston -- he is an elite player at a position of need.

Elston is all of 175 lbs. He's a college Cb. Highly doubt he'll play safety in college if he comes here.

And, even then, they wanted Janzen at corner. We played Janzen at safety because we had no cornerbacks. Zero rush + Zero CBs = need for an eraser in the defensive backfield. Janzen was thought of as that eraser.

Isn't that about what Janzen played at his freshman year?

Janzen was ranked as a CB coming out of HS. We played him at FS because he was good enough to play it as a freshman and we didn't have anybody else there. Remember Waggner was horrible as a redshirt freshman.

He looks Ed Reed-ish. Not anywhere Ed Reed, just a similar type player. Got the mitts to catch the ball and wiggle to house it, and isn't afraid to hit somebody (although he does have a visible lag from recognize to trigger).

Could be used like JJ as an eraser with a single-high FS.

He's not a FS guys. Must it continue to be stated. He's small but he's good. Think Pac-Man Jones lite. He's an aggressive playmaker who is explosive but he's a bit underweight right now. But he'll be a helluva CB in the SEC.

He will be at UGA this week end for an unofficial. Sounds like he is saving his official for their big recruiting week end at the end of the year.

OCI, Skeeter, what are the overall feelings on Elston? It sounds like our best shots at DB left are Elston, Diggs, and Bivins. Can you shed any light on how the staff feels about Diggs and Elston, especially after the Daniel Gray committment.

From what I gathered in the Gray thread the spot Gray took was for Tino Thomas. Also that spot was between Bivens and and Gray and whoever committed first got the spot.

Skeeter feels like the coaches would take Diggs first and then be done (and be very happy), but I think they find a way to take both.

I saw this from Jmoore on VQ

Per TOS

Elston will likely take an OV here, he is playing in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game on Dec. 10th & said he will likely commit to a school on that day.

Elston is also playing in the Under-Armour All American game in Jan.

Chad Simmons is the one saying Tennessee leads.

So Tino is not enrolling in Jan? Where are you getting that?

No one knows...Hubbs said he hasn't heard that and is expecting him to enroll even though their has been some chatter on Southern Miss.

OCI and Skeeter both said they expect Tino to be at Southern Miss.

But honestly the main reason I think it is happening is the commitment of Gray...he just seems to fill in for Tino nicely and it just makes sense.

"Tennessee, Georgia, and Arkansas are coming after me the hardest right now," said Trae Elston. "Right now, I would have to say Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, and Alabama are my top four. Georgia is probably fifth, I just need to visit them again."

"Allen Carson is my cousin and he signed with Tennessee last year, so it would be cool to play with him again. Allen has told me a lot about Tennessee and I have a very good relationship with Lance Thompson. I talk to him at least once every week. I have been there for a game and it is great in Knoxville."

"I am playing in the Under Armour All-American game, but I think I will be committed to someone before then. I am probably going to commit on December 10 at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game. That is what I am thinking right now.

"I do not really have a leader right now, but I think I will know by the time the game gets here."
- Scout

Chad Simmons said IHO Tennessee is the leader ATP.
