He's a better athlete for sure. But they play two different positions. Elston is a CB that's in the 170-175 lb range. He plays safety because he's the best player in the secondary.
You really need to get over this. He COULD play safety at the next level. His speed and ball skills are great. Its all about how he fills out with a college weight traing program. You have no idea what the staff will do with Elston if he signs.
Cant be right, according to some posters he is 170lbs soaking wet.
Yeah alright. Remember how Spencer Ware was punishing our safeties? Now put a 180lb guy at safety and watch what happens in this league. Dooley and Co. want a bigger defense. He doesn't fit what they want at safety but definitely at CB. He can be a big time CB for us I have no doubt. But I personally don't even want to see him at safety. We'll see though.
Hahahahaha you believe a listed weight over telling me he's 183 officially. Maybe a coaches weighing him in themselves or something. You want to prove he's a safety when we've had more than one of the insiders saying he's being recruited as a CB. Hahahahaha I'm about done with this back and forth convo with you guy.
Generally, I agree. I like the trend toward bigger players up the middle, and I think Elston probably plays CB if he comes to UT.
But Janzen was a big hitter for us at safety, and he was playing at 185 max. Probably less. IIRC, they even experimented with him playing down in the box like EB. Some guys play bigger than their weight. No reason to get hung up on it as long as he's making plays.
Remember they wanted to move him to CB but we weren't good enough back there to have him at his best position of CB. Just because they are playing the position well doesn't mean they aren't out of position. Waggner has played well at safety for us but CB is his best position.
Sure, I remember. That could very well be the case next year too, though. We hope Brewer will come back strong, and Lanier or Moore will take a step forward. That Randolph will keep progressing. We're still thin and really young.
And I know you know this because I've seen you say you expect McNeil out there early and often. I'm just making the point that we want our best athletes on the field, and if that means putting a 175 lb. freshman at safety, I think the staff will do it. Unlikely, but plausible.

I really hope Coleman can continue to progress. He seems to have the ideal attributes to be a really good CB.
My friends in Oxford that know Trae said he's definitely a Tennessee lean and unless something drastic happens, like Alabama coming after him (highly unlikely, just an example), he'll commit to the Vols at the Alabama-Mississippi game.
Don't believe the no leader stuff, he just doesn't want to show his hand. He's a good kid though.
