'12 GA RB Imani Cross (Nebraska Commit)

Cross had a surprise visit to UK apparently and is there today for an official visit. Hope he stays out of the SEC..I don't want to have to worry about him 2 or 3 years from now.

On an emotional level, it hurts me that Imani was told to look elsewhere, and that while he was all Vol at one time, he will end up somewhere else.

On a practical level though, it wouldn't have done him or UT any good for him to come over here and play behind Alden Hill 4 years.

Our coaching staff should have dug a little deeper. Imani Cross put on too much bulk, He needs to lose some of it and he will be a great, not good, back. All they had to do was look at some film from his freshman and sophomore years at Flowery Branch. He was still great as junior but by his senior year all of the bulk he had added slowed him down and affected his cuts and moves. Coaches should have been able to recognize what changed instead of just throwing in the towel because he wasn't the same player.

I was saddened to tellget the first and longtime commit of this class to look around, but I do think alden is as good or better

CJG made a comment the other day that I am still trying to process. He said Hill had "speed". Graham had elite speed. He played with guys who had speed. In his short coaching career, he has coached guys with speed.... and yet he said Hill had "speed".

IIRC, one of the main things that kept him a 3* was a lack of speed. I am torn between believing the Vols took him as a project who might not even end up a RB... and thinking they may think they've stolen a good one.

Didn't Hill run a 4.5 electric timed 40 right in front of our staff? That's fast for 6'2" 225lbs, is it not?

I honestly think we've stolen a good one. He broke school records while splitting time with another 2013 D1 prospect - Michigan commit Dymonte Thomas. I think he would've easily of been of 4* being the only back. EASILY.

Yeah. It is exceptionally good at that weight... but you usually see guys with his production, size, speed, et al rated higher by Rivals. He's a 5.6 according to them so they don't even think he's at the top end of 3* players. Usually they would hedge their bets with a guy who has his measurables, production, and honors within a good recruiting state like Ohio.

Things just don't seem to line up.

You mean Rivals might have missed on their evaluation of Hill? I'm shocked.

I am not so sure. For evidence.... see Santos, Worley, Randolph, Sentimore.... There are time for whatever reason that the Rivals eval staff sets their collective heads and refuses to budge.

But back to another point I've made, if this is two years from now and Dooley has been winning impressively... he's a 4* at least.

I know what you are saying but this one seems too obvious. I am not altogether shocked he isn't a 4*... but am very shocked he's not a 5.7. Reminds me of their stubbornness on Randolph. Hopefully the end result will be similar... that will give DD more credibility with Rivals also.

He's not 6'2. I saw him on campus the other day and he is about 6'0. But he is probably 225...he's thick as hell.

I actually don't like really tall RB's. Rarely do they have a low center of gravity giving them the ability to make great cuts. I hope Borque isn't as tall as advertised either.
