'12 GA WR Charlie Hegedus

I think the Vols are going to try and keep some options open and look at what kind of senior year Charlie has. In his meeting with Charlie, Dooley talked about the fact that players move up and down the recruiting boards a lot during their senior years and urged him to concentrate on having a good senior year. It would seem to me to be the height of folly to ignore the kind of senior year a recruit has. I feel Charlie is going to have a tremendous senior season and it will depend on whether UT, UGA or Auburn shows him some love first. Charlie has shown patience with the process so far and worked hard for offers, but there are limits. I can see him committing to any of the above three schools if receiving an offer once the season starts. Outside possibilities are Alabama and Florida who have also shown a lot of interest in him. If nothing breaks by mid season, I think he commits to NC State who has been pressuring him to commit. Once he commits, I think he stays committed and doesn't entertain any other offers.

I'm with you Greg. These silly 7 on 7 camps and drills as means to evaluate are OK, butlend to enormous numbers of busts. Real time football is an entirely different beast. Some guys can just play while others can't. Live football, in pads, with something on the line is where you find out who can play.

Dooley said its very possible Hegedus gets an offer. Hedge said:
"and i killed some 4 star DB in 1 0n 1s and 7 on 7 the whole camp. his last name was crowley or something"

Hegedus did look outstanding in the camp. I especially liked one sliding down catch where a ball was under thrown to him and he had to do a sliding stop, got down low and caught it just a few inches off the ground. He has incredible hands, best I've ever seen. Dooley said he had improved his position and they would be looking closely at the film they took. That being said, I got the strong feeling that Dooley believed they were currently maxed out on WR offers and had to see how some of the outstanding offers played out. I think if Hegedus has the senior year I think he will, he gets the next WR offer, assuming there will be one. I'm not sure on their thinking, but maybe if they sign Patterson with only two years to play, they feel that signing an additional WR would take up the slack in depth caused by signing a guy with only two years to play. That might get Hegedus an offer even if they sign all the open offers.

I thought the same thing about Patterson. he could possibly be even 1 and done and who knows Hunter and Rogers could both be gone their JR years and if that happens thats 3 gone just like that. Thats why i think if we get patterson we will take 4.

I'm really pulling for this kid. He sounds like a leader.

I really hope the staff gives him a chance.

Although it is unlikely for three to declare in one year. Would be a nice precautionary move though

Greg...does Charlie want to be a Vol as badly as it seems or is he just really working for a big time offer? If he wants to be VFL as it appears, it's hard to not find a way to make this work. I know we have a #'s crunch, but hopefully the coaches will find a way.

I will actually be sad if we don't offer him. The more I read about him the more I want him to be a Vol.

This is supposition and not from white lightenings mouth, but merely my take on the situation. The Vols are his #1 pick, but UGA and Auburn aren't that far back. I think he is working hard for an offer from one of those three, with UT being his preference. If UGA offered, I would bet he would inform UT...see if he got an offer from them and if not, commit to UGA. If we offered, he might just commit. I think he will be patient pending an offer from one of those three. That take is far from certainty. UGA is a much closer drive for his dad to watch games, and his sister is at UGA. I'm worried about UGA as they are getting more proactive in recruiting Charlie. I'm hoping we don't keep dragging our feet and let UGA sweet talk him away.

I never question who the coach's offer and never will. Its what They get paid to do. But I have a good feeling about this kid and think it would be a mistake to not offer. Jmo

Charlie has an offer from NC state. Preseason they are ranked 21st, which is higher than us or UGA. You can debate ACC versus SEC, and I would agree with you, but I would call NC State a big time offer. NC States's coach, Tom O'Brien, used to coach at Boston College where Charlie's dad played. So there is a connection there. I don't think it's an issue of a big time offer, my take is he already has one which he isn't committing to. It's an issue of what teams he really likes and we currently top that list.

I live a mile from Lassiter, and I'm assuming the Hegedus' live in this general area as well. Athens is definitely CLOSER than Knoxville but that drive to Athens is miserable on game weekends. So, timewise, I'd say it's almost a push. From here, it's a quick jump onto 75 north and off you go to knoxville. 2hrs and 30 minutes later, you're there. Going to Athens, you have to fight I-285, 85 North, and 316 (unless you do like others and stay on 85 all the way up to the jefferson exit). It's at least 2 hours on a Friday or Saturday on game weekend and it's been a while, but the last time I went to Athens for the Tennessee game it took us over 3 hours before we pulled into town. That's one reason why I don't bother going to Athens anymore.

ps: I am pulling for Charlie to get an offer - would be great to have more kids from our area playing for the VOLS!

Next time you go to K-town, please give me a lift....I've never made the drive in a race car before. Takes me 3.5 -4 hours to get to Neyland stadium on game day.

4 hours? It's only ~190miles from here. I usually drive up on Friday night but I've made it up there in under 3 hours on game day too. The flow of traffic generally moves at around 75-80mph most of the way on I-75. Obviously if there's a wreck or construction or something, all bets are off.

You have to compare apples to apples. You are comparing Atlanta to Knoxville at midnight versus Atlanta to Athens in game day traffic. I've made both drives over 50 times....and it's a lot quicker to Athens. I do agree with you though about how bad the traffic jam is getting into Athens on game day. One thing I have done is to miss the opening kickoff and drive in at the last second. Tickets are cheaper if you are buying, and traffic is non existent. Of course...getting home is still horrible.

Miss the kickoff?? Hell No!!!!:eek:lol:

As I have to travel from outside the state of Tennessee to go to games I plan way ahead. If the kickoff is set for 3PM...I usually get into town no later than 9AM. Alot of times I will get there 2-3 days ahead of time. There is way to much that goes into game day for me to arrive last minute.
