'12 JUCO DE Denico Autry (MSU signee)

This would be the perfect week to let a couple recruits announce their commitments.

Are they still saying that? Thought they sobered up lately.

Saturday I was talking to a Vandy Fan.
Vandy Fan: you mad (about Jelks)
Me: Not really
Vandy: You guys offered him.
Me: We offer a lot of people. We only have about 6 spots left and he wasn't first in line for any of those spots. If later there was was a spot left for him, sure we would have taken him but not a huge loss.
Vandy: Typcial Vol fan, Franklin may not be out recruiting Dooley but he is out recruiting him in Tennessee.

At which point I was so stupefied by that comment I just walked away. Do they think that you should recruit a 3 star player in Tennessee over a 4 star in Georgia, which is in many cases closer to Knoxville than the school in Tennessee?

Vandy has football fans?!?!?

Any word on whether he's visiting this weekend?

I know he said he might in the article that came out after the USCjr game

It is O'Brien

Thunder -- an OT question.

In the back of my mind (a quite dark and dingy place) I seem to remember that Rivals only partially counts JUCO players based on how many years they have left to play. Is that the case?? If so, how much would players like Autry, Patterson, and Jacobs help us?

Before the comments come, I completely understand that how much they end up helping us on the field is far more important than how much they help us in the rankings, but top rankings are good for the public perception of our program so they are worth paying attention to.

Thanks in advance for your reply, Thunder...

Not really. We get points if they are ranked in the top 50 JUCO guys but we don't get any points for position ranking. Position ranking points are only available for HS players, mean no Preps or JUCOs. It factors into the "N" value in the scoring formula. As you can see right now we don't have any points for having any HS players in the top 100 HS recruits but we do have 1 JUCO in the top 50 JUCOs so we get points for that. Autry & Patterson are both at the top of the JUCO ranks so they help both with stars and boosting the "N" value in the calc.

As a follow up - keep in mind the score is calculated on the top 20 commitments only so if we get 2 or 3 more 3 or 4 stars, both Blanc and Bullock will be dropped from the calc.

Right now I figure the scores for these prospects as follows

Autry = 140 + 10 = 150 (10 points are for being in the top 10 JUCOs)
Patterson = 140 + 10 = 150 (10 points are for being in the top 10 JUCOs)
Meredith = 140 + 8 = 148 (8 points based on position rank #13)
Pender = 140 + 8 + 18 = 166 (He is in the top 100 HS ranks #28 = 8 points plus 18 points for being in the top 2-5 of his position)

These values are not directly additive to the current score but they are the present values that will be plugged into the formula.

Also remember on 11/28 & 29 rivals is updating their position rankings. I don't know yet if we squeeze a few points out of that or not. We'll see.

One more followup - I sort of got the suspicion from some earlier posts that perhaps maybe it might just be possible that Autry & Meredith might commit to us this weekend. If that happens our score will move up to 1688.606 and assuming no one else changes on the team rankings then after the update we would be in 6th place, one notch above LSU. :dance2:
