'12 JUCO DE Denico Autry (MSU signee)

You guys have a better shot at Autry than you do with Brown coming from the MSU side of things. He maybe a "silent" commit to UT. I was stating that he may not be a lock just yet. Just my opinion, but I think he would have verbally committed by now if he were a lock. He still has official visits to take and he's coming to the Egg Bowl. Again, I'm saying he may sign with UT, my point is that he isn't in orange yet and it may get interesting.

Think you would be better served in the football forum. You can probably help them burn some mattresses.

One more followup - I sort of got the suspicion from some earlier posts that perhaps maybe it might just be possible that Autry & Meredith might commit to us this weekend. If that happens our score will move up to 1688.606 and assuming no one else changes on the team rankings then after the update we would be in 6th place, one notch above LSU. :dance2:

Thanks for all the information -- good to have that cleared up. We could not possibly jump to #6 in the nation because as everyone knows, Dooley is a doofus who cannot recruit or evaluate talent, lol.

I believe both Autry and Meredith are Vol locks and Meridith almost certainly will commit after this weekend with a good chance Autry will also. Whether they do or not, we are going to close out unbelievably strong this year unless we lose to both Vandy and Ky.

I'm not sure a loss to Vandy (unlikely) would hurt recruiting that much, but a loss to Kentucky would -- if nothing else the meltdown in UT's fandom would be epic with a lot of negative comments about Dooley and the staff. The good news is that a loss to KY is about a 1% chance, if that.

Again, thanks for all your info.

You may know this already but I just read this on ESPN this AM. I thought I would share...I hope the coaching staff can lock him in and we can sign him up...

"AUSTIN, Texas -- There seems to be some confusion as to whether heralded junior college defensive end Denico Autry (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) will take an official visit to Texas on Nov. 19 or not.

Autry, who holds an offer from Texas, told HornsNation on Sunday that he “thinks he set one up” for this weekend in Austin.

“But I haven’t heard from them so I don’t know my status,” Autry said.

Autry said that if he does come down for the visit he could be joined by teammate Brandon Moore, a defensive tackle. Moore (6-foot-6, 330 pounds) signed with Alabama out of high school when current Texas defensive tackles coach Bo Davis was on the Crimson Tide’s staff.

When asked what he likes about Texas, Autry said, “They always have a good team. They always have a good program.”

Autry (6-6, 245) did say that he was going to take official visits to Mississippi State, most likely on Nov. 25, and to Miami (Fla.). He wasn’t sure when he would visit the Hurricanes.

He listed his top three schools as Tennessee, Mississippi State and Alabama."

Autry will be a Vol, and I am hoping he will announce it after this weekend. He is just getting some very nice trips on somebody else's dime -- what kid would not want to do that??

I like his teammate, Brandon Moore -- great size for the NT "plug" that can collapse the pocket that Dooley keeps saying we are lacking. I hope Autry steers him here if he is not totally locked into Ala.

Y/W! I built a model so I could play along with Rivals. Anyway, my next project is trying to figure out who our main SEC competitors (Ala, LSU, FL, GA, Aub, USCe) will not have room for on NSD. Space is getting tight for some of them so given who is left on the board where the recruit has interest in us I'm thinking maybe its not out of the realm of possibility we get a couple of upside surprises.

In any event, the 6th place ranking was just a call on this weekend with an if here and there. It would be, based on the model I built and an analysis of the overall final point rankings over the past 5 years, an accomplishment of unimaginable proportion for us to end up there after NSD. After looking at who we here believe our best candidates are and running the numbers as they now stand I think our best shot is around 10th place +/- 1. If I had to bet, I'd say that is pretty safe.

I come in peace! I'm an MSU Bulldog fan and I'm here because we've had several good recruits in common and actually narrow their list down to our schools. Will Redmond, Jason Croom, Ben Brown, and now Autry. I want to clear some things up that I have knowledge about. Some of you may think Autry is a lock to UT but I promise you he is not. How many times has he officially or unofficially UT? I can tell you that he's been to MSU unofficially several times. He also has an "official" visit next week. I'm not saying that he won't come to UT because his JUCO teammate coming and that's a big plus, but it's far from a lock. He loves our DC and he loves the fact that Fletcher Cox and Josh Boyd has told him personally that they will return for their senior year. He knows that will free him up to make a lot of plays next year. He knows that our D is 17th in points allowed and UT is probably middle of the road. He knows we lose only two seniors on a top 20 D and one happens to be the position he plays.

For him, unofficial visits to MSU are more feasible than visits to Tennessee given proximity. I wouldn't read too much into that. Suffice to say, he has been to Tennessee on his own dime at least once and has visited officially.

Would you rather spend an expense-paid weekend in Gainesville, FL and Miami, FL?

OR

Would you rather spend a weekend in Scooba, MS?
