'12 JUCO RB Marion Grice

It would have to be someone else, I can't see CDD asking a kid from his alma mater to walk this late in the game.

me, lil man from Georgia

Jay, I agree as far as talent upgrade, but do you think this hurts the coaching staff long term in Georgia.

Already cut a couple and cutting him so close to NSD?

Just a question.

Fine line....trouble with extending offers to weaker players early in the game...I think if Grice wants to be a Vol we ask a kid to look around....it is what it is

I just wonder if Grice had to de commit from aTm because of the SEC academic levels that aTm has to operate in now that they are in the conference?

That's strange, don't you think? Guy was in love with Texas A&M....wonder what changed? And also wonder why we aren't in it now. Hill, Watson, Bourque and Grice would be an amazing haul. And IMO, Grice could start from Day 1. Dude is a great talent.

Lane
Neal
Bourque
Hill
Watson
T. Smith
Toney
D. Young

8 Tailbacks would seem to be enough considering that all are sophomores or younger. JMO:hi: Basically 10% of Vols entire scholarship roster..

Don't tell Franklin about these SEC academic levels; especially the ones required at Vandy.

IIRC coaches consider Neal a slot WR, not TB

Did Toney pick up a scholly or is he still a walk-on?

I don't think this would be good long term for Tenn. We have a great class so far and I don't think you risk future classes for one player. We are not in the same shape we were in 2 years ago. We can be a little more selective. But if we miss out on Borque? then by all means take Grice

I agree with this. I have zero complaints about Dooley and Co's recruiting because they're bringing it. However, I hope they've learned they don't need to extend offers to weaker recruits so early. Only reason I can think of is they may have been concerned our poor record/play would potentially hurt recruiting more than it has.

Also, gotta stick with the guys we've signed. Cutting them loose now would be incredibly hypocritical and bad for business.

Dropping offers is bushleague, especially this late in the game. If we don't have room for Grice, we don't have room for him.

This is true. Next year recruits will understand when we offer you need to accept or run the risk of being left out!!Stand youre ground and be firm !!!!!

This has no bearing on Grice. If he qualified and wanted to come here I am certain that we would accept his commitment.

I think the larger and more important issue is for Dooley to learn to not accept marginal commitments early in the recruiting season. That practice will always do one of two things -- either you will run out of room later on, or you will be forced to recruit over the marginal kids later which brings opprobrium and bad PR on to the program -- especially when you do it to three kids from our most important recruiting state, Georgia.

One more thing it does is that it casts doubt on how good a class you are recruiting and could actually hinder the recruiting of high quality kids for that reason alone.
