'12 JUCO RB Marion Grice

This has no bearing on Grice. If he qualified and wanted to come here I am certain that we would accept his commitment.

I think the larger and more important issue is for Dooley to learn to not accept marginal commitments early in the recruiting season. That practice will always do one of two things -- either you will run out of room later on, or you will be forced to recruit over the marginal kids later which brings opprobrium and bad PR on to the program -- especially when you do it to three kids from our most important recruiting state, Georgia.

One more thing it does is that it casts doubt on how good a class you are recruiting and could actually hinder the recruiting of high quality kids for that reason alone.

mlsoft can you imagine all the panic here if we only have a few of recruits in October or November. The panic will be off the hook." Dooley can't recruit" "he don't know what he's doing" blah blah blah we would have a melt down up in here

Sure it does Grice had a chance to commet to us early before Borque commited and we would have taken him.Now he wants to decommit from Tam and we have Borque, unless he decommits from us I say no to Grice. DD is doing a great job with the talent we are bring in and I dont think he could just push Borque to the side this late in the game. Would not look good.

When is the actual switch to SEC rules for Mizz and A&M? I thought I read they didnt have to comply during this recruiting cycle.

Agree 100% Grice had his chance earlier. That ship already sailed unless Borque decommits.

IIRC we had that meltdown that you're talking about, but it was even earlier, in June & early July.

Grice said it is very likely he takes his recruitment past NSD. He visited ASU two weekends ago and is planning on either visiting Ole Miss or Houston this weekend. Grice also says he is willing to listen to what any school has to say and will probably take some visits after NSD before making a decision.

Sounds like a guy that the summer will be very busy taking classes but that's not really a gamble after NSD if you have a spot left.

Maybe we grab him if we have some surprising last minute decommits and if he can qualify academically. Take him and put him in that basket weaving course.

You take him as soon as you realize only 24 NLIs are coming you way. You worry about qualifying later.

I guess he will qualify for the SEC afterall. Since he is going to visit Ole Miss. Unless Ole Miss knows some sort of loophole to get him in.

Either that or they are willing to take a risk on him seeing as they only have 14 committs, and just looking at the prospects still interested in them it does not look like there is anyway they get to 25.

This and it also will make their class appear better to the public. That means a lot to a new coach

You could be right. But I don't see Grice signing with a school (Ole Miss) that he isn't 100% sure he can play for. It would be very foolish. I know it happens sometimes, but still. If Grice isn't pretty certain he can get in at Ole Miss, I doubt he signs with them. He has too many other options from schools from other conferences.

With the talk of us possibly having an open spot when NSD comes to an end. I think this would be the perfect kind of guy to take a shot at. If he doesn't qualify nothing lost and use the spot next year. As shot of this happening?

According to Hubbs, academics are an issue.

Yes no doubt. That's why he has stated he is waiting until after signing day. I assume he is being forced to wait and see who has a spot that allows them to take a risk. I am thinking we may be that team.
