We need all the receivers we can get. If we're moving A Anderson and Naz Oliver to receiver 2 weeks before the season starts, that pretty much tells you all you need to know about our needs at receiver.

UT needs receivers more than people realize, especially ones with size. They have to recruit like Da'Rick and Justin will be gone after next season because there's at least a decent chance that both will be. Zack will also be gone. That leaves:

- Milton, Sr (they don't expect a whole lot from him)
- Arnett, Jr
- Dallas, Jr
- Jones, RS Sr (Same as Milton)

They need at least 4 in this class, maybe even 5. Croom is 100% a WR. Bowles and Redding will be given every opportunity to play WR as well.

Where do you get that they don't expect much out of Milton? He is still learning how to be a WR which he never played until last year. He will be productive before he leaves here. Jones is the one that should have the "they don't expect much tag" . Also they get to recruit again next year so no need to take 5 this year but I agree we are seriously short at that position. I think Croom has TE written all over him but you may be right. Alot depends on who we are able to recruit over the next two years at WR. If Croom see's he isn't going to get on the field at WR he will be more agreeable to a move to TE.

I don't understand why people keep acting like Hunter and Rodgers are gone after 3 years. Only 3 juniors were drafted at WR last year before the 5th round. (Julio, AJ, and Jonathan Baldwin) People who believe both will go pro after their junior year are wearing orange tinted glasses at this point. Both have incredible ability, and could be that good. Could and are mean 2 different things.

I dont think anyone said definitely. But the potential is there and you have to prepare for it. If you sit back and pretend they will be here all 4 years and dont prepare then you have a serious issue at WR.

I agree. Depth at any position can vanish for any number of reasons. I was just pointing out that 2 receivers from the same team turning pro because of their abiities is very unlikely.

Milton will never be a #1 WR. He may contribute as a 3 eventually, possibly a 2, but he's never going to be a guy that you depend on a ton.

Unless Croom comes on campus and blows up to about 240, he is without question a WR.

You have to prepare for the worst. I guarantee that the staff would agree that both of them leaving early is not that far fetched....they are elite athletes. Will they leave early? Who knows, but you have to prepare like they are.

Saying Arnett is NFL material is far fetched to say the least. We have not seen him on the field yet. Right now all your big hopes are just that, hopes. Not one kid on the current roster has proven anything. Rogers and Hunter have the potential but until they prove it they are just two more WRs on the roster. And as far as Milton goes, one scrimmage with decent stats means nothing to me, another unproven player.

I find it highly ironic that you're downplaying the accomplishments of the players we have on our roster right now to justify giving another scholarship to a wide receiver who hasn't played a down of D-1 football.

Rogers, Hunter and Arnett were all top-100 players coming out of high school, and Bowles is this year. Was Patterson? Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals.com wide receivers 2009 Why is this message board suddenly so googly-eyed over a player who's been burning JUCO scrubs when we already have plenty of promising young guys comparable to him on the roster already?

While the grass may always seem greener on the other side of the road, some perspective is helpful. We already have talent at WR. We need talent elsewhere, and we only have so many scholarships to gamble on unproven recruits. Even if Patterson turns out to be an identical clone of Justin Hunter (i.e., the best case scenario), what would that really do for our offense? There are only so many throws to go around. Having the luxury of one more NFL-caliber wideout won't stop Alabama from running all over our front 7 in the two years Patterson will be eligible.

1.) Not one player on the roster has proven anything at WR, YET.
2.) Patterson had grade issues, which affects ranking....go figure.
3.) We have Unproven talent already. Not sure how many times you need me to say this.
4.) You can never ever have too many weapons. You are telling me having potentially 3 dynamic WRs on the field at the same time is a bad thing?
5.) And again you circle around to something I already addressed yet you choose to keep :horse: If there were an abundance of quality DL interested in UT dont you think we would be all over them? You sir are the one who needs some perspective or a new prescription. They just dont exist. Whats left we are in on and we have room for both WRs and DL if we can get them.

If you can't see that Patterson is an elite talent then there is no use in even arguing with you any more.

Promising does not mean they are going to be great/good receivers. The more playmakers the better.

Retarded. Patterson will probably be the top JUCO in the country. Autry and Grice were no-names in high school. We should stop recruiting them imo.

This is Fulmer logic at its finest.

Giving a scholarship to yet another receiver this year means one less scholarship available for a stud d-linemen or a playmaking WR (with 4 years of eligibility) next year. We don't need to settle and offer all of our available scholarships this year for the sake of this year's class ranking. If we can't land a top-tier line prospect this year, we should be more discriminating and wait for next year. It's either that, or we're going to have to start revoking scholarships Saban-style to enable our oversigning.

Furthermore, I don't get the sense of urgency motivating this message board to sign 4 or 5 WRs this year for a 2013 scenario without Hunter AND Rogers... even if that comes to fruition, that's still a loooooooong time away. Why not spread out our scholarships and sign a couple of WRs next year?

Ask Dooley about wr depth. Someone already posted this but it got skipped over, Dooley moved Naz Oliver and Anthony Anderson to WR because there were not enough receivers right now. We Need a Big WR Class.

Because of two minor injuries right now, we can't run a 5 wideout play. Dooley is moving rb's and db's to wr and we don't need receivers. Even if we sign 2 more wrs we still can sign 5 or 6 more dlinemen. Get a new line bro, we don't only need dt's.

If you have the opportunity to snag an elite talent, like Patterson, then you do it. Reason being, you never know... this kid could come in and be the icing on the cake that gets us to the SEC championship or even further in 2012 or 2013. If that were to happen, what kind of effect does that have on the program? It helps recruiting in years to come. It attracts other stud WR and prospects because they see we are competing for championships... a championship that may not have been reached without the addition of that one guy that put you over the top. So if Patterson has the character and talent, then you take him. Case closed.

Would you prefer a kid burn JUCO scrubs or HS players? Patterson and Croom will be stud Wr's for us. Bowles has been rumored to be a DB.Heres a few names of HSstud WR's..Brent Vinson,Jon Wade,Ted Meline,Leonard Scott. Wade ended up a good Secondary player,Scott a good return man. No need to mention the other 2. Alot of guys dont peak until after HS. I would take that anyday over a kid that has peaked in HS.

Dude is about to join my ignore list with these arguments and logic.

This is my favorite recruit in this class. I'm glad we are in such good shape with him. It killed me to lose Thompkins, and this dude is every bit as good. It's insane that someone would not want him on the team.
