'13 D.C. LB Yannick Ngakoue

General Info:
Left w approximately 3 min left in the game and Friendship was losing to North Point 27-12. Talent abounds at Friendship but they are one of the worst coached teams I have seen at the HS level in quite some time despite their 6-0 record coming into this game. To say the coach was clueless in terms of game planning and preparation might be an understatement. The score was 20-0 @ half. Twice they got the ball inside the opposition's 5 yd line and not only did they not score but they moved backwards to about their opponent's 30 yd line WITHOUT penalties.

Tabor & Gray are THEEEEEEE REAL DEAL! I'll expound more in their threads.

Positives: Yannick is physically imposing (6'2 230), has good speed and is consistently in the backfield. Flashed glimpses of his coverage as he effortlessly covered the TE. His potential is enormous.

Areas for Improvement: Yannick's best attributes may be a gift and a curse at the HS level. While he was consistently in the backfield, once he got there he didn't make plays as consistently as you'd like as he has a tendency to overrun plays. He also appeared to take plays off despite only playing on the defensive side of the ball.

I'll see if I can upload some pics of Yannick. Tried unsuccessfully snapping a few of J.Tabor and D.Gray.

After his recent interview, he said he has a top 5 in no order: Maryland, UT, Miami, WVU, and USCjr. He talked about what he liked at each team and for UT it was this... "I have a great relationship with Coach Sal and I really like that they run a 3-4 bc that fits me."

Consensus is that neither will be present next year.

Does anyone know what kind of speed this guy has? He looks built like a Mack truck already, but rivals doesn't list a 40 or a shuttle.

The Maryland native has the home state school high on his list but he has always spoke about how much he liked his visit to Tennessee back in the summer. With a new coaching staff in place, the question is can Tennessee get him back to campus to get a legitimate look from him. Ngakoue also has South Carolina, Miami, and West Virginia on his list. Ngakoue doesn't have any official visits scheduled at this point and the Vols are in a position to get one of those visits in January. It's also worth remembering Thigpen recruited Ngakoue a bit when at Auburn.
Official visit date: TBD
Other teams in the mix: Maryland, Miami, South Carolina, West Virginia

Willie Martinez and Thigpen are going to be huge for us in the future.

Let's be honest, they are the only guys with SEC connections on the staff. None of the other coaches can say I know the SEC and this is how we are going to make you a superstar. When the Vols win some games in the coming years the new guys will be able to as well, but as they piece together this 13' class it's gonna be up to those two.

And I forgot to mention Graham. He is arguably our best recruiter, but he seems to be focused on keeping the recruits we already have committed. I think these guys have what it takes to pull the '13 class together. It will be tough to land 11 solid commits before NSD.

Azzani ?

Doesn't matter how good your recruiters are during the dead period. One call per seven day period.

Are we out of the running for this LB? 247 updated and said that he had a final four. Anyone have info on who the 4 teams are?

actually, it does matter. the better recruiters get the kids to call them.

its all apart of the relationships that are forged over the years.

Yup.

Even with the dead period still in effect and Christmas on Tuesday and the coaches spending some time with their families, during a dead period, coaches can make one phone call a week, but can direct message prospects on Twitter and Facebook to have the prospect call them. And from what we are told the phone has been ringing quite a bit.
