'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Henry kept putting his 3 schools in the order of UA, UT, and UGa. That was not encouraging.

The radio hosts seemed to insinuate that they knew his decision. One of the hosts talked about his forthcoming announcement for tomorrow being between UT, UA, and UGa (in that order). Was that a slip? Can only hope.

Henry has been committed to Bama ever since he decommitted from UGA. No one will ever convince me otherwise. Love the pageantry of college football, but prefer watching NFL over NCAA any day. Talent just gets heavily flooded to specific schools and actual coaching is a secondary perk.

You think Les Miles could ever win in the NFL? Hell no. Spurrier failed miserably in the NFL, but is now winning against at SC. Saban failed in the NFL, and went back to where he knew he'd be worshiped. Saban is a successful DBacks coach in the NFL if he wants to be. That's about it.

Actually, Saban did a lot of great things with the Dolphins. His only mistake was picking Culpepper over Brees. He did a great job of turning the running game and D around. It's not like they had a bunch of success immediately prior and immediately after his departure. The franchise was pretty awful. If he went to a team in the NFL with good management, he would be another Belicheck (remember record wise he was awful before he was considered a genius).

NFL success relies more on the front office rather than the head coaching usually, IMO. I will agree with the other guy that recruiting sucks in the NCAA. As much parity as there is, it's still too one-sided. Too many shenanigans goes on as well. They really need to form a farm league for the NFL to cull some of the shadier aspects of college recruiting.

I agree with you here. I would also throw in that he's a control freak and that's harder to be in the nfl than college. Could be why he left after such as short period of time. It's tough for nfl coaches to do well in college too. Same but different games that's for sure.

I love college ball way more than the nfl personally...

Huh!?!? As a Dolphins fan, I can assure you he didn't do great things with the Dolphins. What is great about missing the playoffs two consecutive times and setting the team back a couple of years, the immediate year after he left being the worst season in franchise history.

And yeah, 2004 was bad, but they were doing just fine prior to 2004 and did better under Sparano after Saban left as well. He also alienated tons of players and the entire team hated him. He was a sinking ship.

I'm not usually saying "didn't want him anyway," but am I he only one worried that we won't get Green if the unlikely happens and Henry picks us? I guess either is better than what we have now, but I'd hate to lose Green for Henry.

Either way though, I won't complain unless we miss out on both. One or the other would be a huge upgrade.

Are people really trying to add a win over Mississippi State to the "signature win" table? That's absolutely ridiculous.

Saying it wouldn't look good is a little harsh. By the time we play them, they will surely be ranked in the top 20. Moreover, winning in Starkville is no easy achievement.

I wouldn't. I'd take either and be extremely happy. Tennessee isn't in the position to pick and choose between two talents like that. For all we know Henry goes to Bama and Green commits to Michigan or Auburn or somewhere else. Not getting Henry doesn't automatically mean they are going to get Green. The only thing it does is minimize the pool of elite RB's Tennessee has a chance to land.

Well, State will be undefeated and a likely top 15 team by the time we play them.

Mississippi State is not a signature win at all. Tennessee has more talent than they do. Just like Missouri those are games Tennessee absolutely should win. They'll be in the Top 15 by default more than anything else because they really haven't played anyone good up to this point. And dont give me Auburn. Auburn will be lucky to win 6 games this year.

I'm not saying it wouldnt' be a 'quality' win and wouldn't look good. I'm saying it is not a signature win like W's over UF, Bama, UGA and USCe would be. Dooley needs to win one of those. He needs to prove he can compete with the big boys. I'm sorry but Miss State is not one of the "big boys".

Don't see us having a chance in this one. I would love to be wrong, though...

It's Bama most likely, all signs are pointing that way, but I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up re-committing to UGA again. It seems like all of a sudden their name is being kicked around once again.

A win over Miss State would be far and away the best win on Dooley's resume thus far, assuming he doesn't beat UGA.

Yes it would be his best win to date, but that isn't saying much. That still doesn't make it a signature win, the kind of "W" Dooley needs. It wouldn't "prove" that Tennessee is back or that he can compete with the big boys.

Beating a top 15 team is never bad even if it is by default like you said.
