"Bell is a good-looking defensive back who probably could play either safety or corner at the next level. While he isn't that big - he doesn't look to be as tall as his listed height of 6-1 - he makes up for it with excellent speed, great instincts and uncanny ball skills. Bell has the hips to play corner at a BCS school, and the toughness to protect the back end at safety."

But a recent poster was accosted for even suggesting corner!

Alright, I give in. Rivals loves us, I am wrong. Never said Rivals hated prospects. or us. They like everyone the same.

I actually have no problem where Bell is rated right now by Rivals. While I like him as a prospect and I think he's a legit National Top 100 guy (75-100 range) I dont think he should be rated as high as he is by 247. I dont see any Rivals "Bias" with that rating considering he isn't committed to anyone and has been "wide open" for a while now.

Also, the difference between being 5'10 and 6'1 is pretty big especially when you are playing a position like safety.

we just need to win this fall and all will be good. If Dooley is safe after the season, we'll see one of our best recruiting classes in awhile, albeit small.

I agree. Dooley has to win this fall. If not recruiting is going to become that much more difficult. I still say the key is getting to at least 8-5. Looking at the schedule that should be very do-able and the bare minimum fans should expect record wise. Anything less than that and the season will be a monumental failure IMO.

These kids and parents really like Dooley, but other coaches are selling that he will be fired and whatever else they can come up with. We just need to win. If the team shows progress as they should, dont be surprised if Hart goes public early in the season stating he will be working on a contract extension for Dooley. Hart really likes Dooley and he understands recruiting.

Not sure how I would feel about an extension or extension talks for that matter at any point during next season, but I understand the importance of stability especially on the trail.

Epicly positive news

But I thought Hart had Kirby Smart hidden in his closet ready to pull him out if we trail by more than 3 all season... Would be nice to start fast, and get some uncertainty out of the air. It would do wonder for commitments IMO.

Dooley needs some signature wins too. Beating some combination of UF, UGA, Bama, and USC is important.

Keith Niebuhr:We don't take offers into account. Excellent film. But we need to see more. He is not 6-1. And he might be better suited for CB

How long is Dooley's original contract? Wasn't it 5 years. The 13-14 schedule is an absolute nightmare, so I am not sure if Hart will give him a contract extension until that season is over. We have road games at Oregon, UF, Bama, Missouri and Lord know what else awaits. It will be tough to have an 8-4 or 7-5 regular season record in 2013-2014. I really feel sorry for Dooley in regards to scheduling, last year's schedule was absolutely terrible. Both him and Hart understand how important scheduling is. Hamilton was an absolute IDIOT in regards to scheduling.

The Oregon away game should have been scheduled when we have Bama/UF at home, like this upcoming season.

We have had a pretty good 5-11 safety in the past. Agree?

Agree with it or not, that would be great news from the simple standpoint that it debunks all of the negative recruiting towards UT.

IF (and that's a BIG if) that happens, I think the '14 class could be even better than '13's...and I think '13's will be Dooley's highest ranked yet.

Bell is a ball player plain and simple. Whether he's a safety, corner, rated 75th or 25th, 6'1 or 5'10, you want him on your team and in your secondary.

I don't understand how Bell's position has anything to do with his ranking.

It shouldn't matter if Vonn Bell ends up playing FS, SS, CB, OLB, or whatever in college. The fact is he is a great football player and his HS film and offer list indicate that. He should be ranked accordingly.

It goes into their position ratings equation. Let the rankings go and just focus on the kid's talent and abilities. You'll experience less stress that way.

I agree completely. He's going to have to win at least 1 of those 4 games this year. He has the roster to realistically be able to win 2 of those.

I would say be able to win three, more likely to win two, slightly disappointing but acceptable to win one, and unacceptable to lose all

Ed Reed is 5'11 as well. Come to think of it, most of the better safeties to ever play the game have been under 6 foot.

8-4 or 9-3 would be very reasonable if not better as long as some juniors do not listen to the wrong people and enter the draft .The Vols will have a junior and senior laden team in 2013 and 2014.And it should be the best Vol team in many years with a great qb and wr and both lines and db so to say it would be tough to get to 7-5 is sad on your behalf.Because they return most all of the key players this year. And most should return for next season.while most teams have lost alot of key players last year and after this season too.And in my opinion which does not mean much to anyone else with the experience and depth the vols will have if no juniors turn pro.I think a coach can only do so much and the players just got to perform.
