'13 JUCO DB Riyahd Jones (UT commit 12/21/12)

After watching this guys film I like the pickup even more. He has only been a CB for 2 years, he played WR in HS. We needed a JUCO DB in a bad way, especially now with Bonner being gone (which sucks BIG time). I can't believe we aren't in on Bell, Ramsey, or Alexander more than we are. Those guys could come in & start day 1 with our lack of depth & talent at CB.

Raw doesn't sound like the word I was hoping to hear used here. Not ready to play immediately??

CP was and still is very raw. It doesn't mean he won't play early. Just means he'll have to rely heavily on athleticism until he works on his technique and overall knowledge of the position.

CP is a freak athlete. You saying this guy is the same kind of athlete?

The success of CP was the worst possible thing to happen to this fan bases mindset about juco recruits.

Jesus man, not everyone thinks every juco player is on CPs level. People are saying that just because he's raw, doesn't mean its a bad pickup. Being raw means that you have talent, but you don't have sound fundamentals, which can be coached.

Is there a link of this guy actually playing in a game? I'm more concerned about how he performs that way. Drill videos are useless IMO.. also, I COULD be WRONG...but I think the drill video is manipulated. The footage looks too quick, meaning that the footage could be slightly sped up. In one video, the footage is slowed down for an effect while he is sitting on the bleachers. (If you like to slow down footage, might as well speed it up at parts right?) I took video editing classes before so I have good sense of it.

Fast guys are kind of amazing to look at in real life. I knew several football players while I was OBC and we had one DB from Army who was about 5'7" and he could do the three-cone drill in about 4 seconds. Not really, but I couldn’t move my feet as fast as he could if they were on fire.

People like to jump to conclusions on here quickly. I remember when I compared Montario Hardesty's running style to Adrian Peterson's people thought I was directly comparing their talent levels. People just want to respond before they think through posts they've just read sometimes.

Heck no. Just saying rawness can be overcome early. Especially in college.

Being a Raw athlete usually means the kid isn't ready to play immediately. The exception would be when the athletic skills are freakish in nature which is very rare like CP. This kid is described as being Raw and I don't see that as a good thing. Lets hope that description isn't accurate.

Raw or not, he's got EIGHT months to work under CWM. He will improve. What you see in his film will just be the basis for what you see on Saturday's in Neyland.

Does landing Jones change our mindset about DBs moving forward?

I know we need speed at DB in a bad way but with our limited numbers (24-25 tops in this class) I just can't see us taking more than 1 more DB...if we're hilding that spot for Bell or someone of that caliber does that leave out Hytchye and Sills?

We need 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 OL, 1 DE, 1 DT, 2 LBs...minimum at each position...that's 24 total...by my count that leaves 1DB

Why do we need two more WR's and another TE?

Why do we think croon is being moved back to WR?

Everything I have read sounds like he fits exactly what this staff wants in a TE.

And then at WR we'll have VD, Bowles, Pig, Carter, Blanc, Cranford, Harris, and Smith. And if Croom is WR then him too.

We need DB's more than TE or WR IMO. I can see TE more than WR though. I wouldn't be against taking one more WR but I don't think we need two more.

Contradicting post. I haven't really heard about Croom if talking to me. I like him at either personally, but I might prefer him at TE. He could be a monster TE.
