'13 TN DE Jason Carr (UT signee)

This plus Jacques and Jordan Williams in space and stringing run plays out has me excited.

Agree with that too.

I am hoping that we have a strong year so some of these naysayers are shut the hell up and these kids get to see that UT is head back in the right direction. These kids that are on the fense will go ahead an pull the trigger and don the orange and white.

Carson, Saulsberry, and Clark are all potential transfers IMO. I'm interested to see if Miller does anything this year. Nobody is talking about him.

Clark will get reps... in fact if he continues to emerge it will allow Couch to get outside some...

The SDE in a 3-4 easily gets turned into a 4-3 3 tech when the OLB walks down ... anyone who has watched a Bama game has witnessed this... Couch is a prototypical 3-4 DE imo... he will start at NT due to being the best we have that is ready to go....

I thought I read that Sal was impressed by Clark and that he'd get some PT. Guess we'll see soon.

A roaming Jac is a scary thought. He's a beast.

Sure about that.......Jordan Williams is the one. Don't trust Jac one bit yet....

I'm going to side with BB on this one... I truly hope Smith can turn it on and be a player for UT...more so than anyone...

but he won't be out there just roaming... sure he will have a little more "roaming" on the pass rush due to the DE being a two gapper... but the 3-4 is built on responsibilities just like the 4-3... an area he needed work in...

Next year we'll have McCullers, Sentimore, Walls, Couch, Miller, Bradley, Johnson (likely), O'Brien, Phillips, Taylor, Carr, and Crayton (hopefully). Clark, Saulsberry, Hood, and Carson are 4 more bodies that will be on the roster.

FYI...I would love to add Carl Lawson to this list. He is a difference maker and when/if he commits to UT, it would be a huge pickup for the VOLS. We need him and Henry/Kamara/Green/ or Turnan to sign at RB and Lawson at DE. We just win to make that happen. It's about time for the team to put up or shut up. I am ready and hope they can pull off a couple of upsets.

Carr has some SERIOUS upside. His development over the next 2 years (senior then freshman) will be outstanding if he keeps a solid work ethic

Salute to miller for being a team player and trying DT. We need more players who are willing to give their all despite projections Or anything else

I hope you are correct. I was expecting him to be a "beast", but so far he has demonstrated very little -- more like a "puddy tat", as Sylvester would say.

I have been blaming his lack of production on playing in an unnatural position, but this year he will have no excuses and needs to get himself into that "beast" mode. I really hope he shows up and shows out.

J smith looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. He's disappeared out there. He needs to improve his angles and try to be more disciplined

True. He has had trouble shedding blockers. Hopefully they worked on his "punch" and improved his technique. I do think sal will bring the best out of him. I know I'd be excited to be moving to the 34 if I were smith. His skills/size fit better with the new system.

+1 on giving props to Miller. But I'm surprised they want him at DT in the 3-4. I thought he'd be a perfect DE in Sal's D.

Either way he's a true VFL (told ogre to shove it bc he was a Vol no matter what when he called trying to get him to not go to class) and I'm happy he came here.

He was talking about him playing DT in the 4-3. That was bad for the kid too. Killed his natural quickness by putting on weight.

Sweet Jesus!!! That's filthy.

Oh ok that makes more sense. I forgot about them trying him at DT last year. So he'll be a DE again now right? I think he' a better fit in the 3-4 than the 4-3 anyways, he's got the prototypical size and skill set for a DE in that alignment. I'm hoping he turns the corner this year and becomes the type of player we all thought he was going to be coming out of HS.

A lot of it is J Smith is playing slow and thinking to much. When he does "let loose", he has blown assignments.

He started playing DT his freshman year. The added weight took his quickness away.

Yep, I think he would have already been a beast at DE if he would have been left there. That's his natural position. I can't wait to see what he does this year.

On Smith, I agree I think he was playing slow because he thinks to much. He has the physical tool to be a beast he just needs to work on the mental part of the game. I think Sal maybe just the coach he needs to reach his potential.
