'13 TN OT Christian Morris

Didn't see him there. I did hear coach Pittman say that they were looking for a "true center" and otherwise probably done with OL.

Was reading back through this thread to get a refresher on what happened...

Does anyone else think its a mistake we're not pushing for this kid...I get the feeling space isn't going to be an issue in this class...I also feel Skipper is wavering pretty bad and maybe Koehler isnt the slam dunk we thought...and we could use 5 OLs after not taking any last year...

In a year where we need OLs we're passing on a highly rated instater who's looked awesome everywhere except the one day he spent at our camp...that just has mistake written all over it to me

I agree with everything here. I'm in the same boat as you on this one for sure.

It is plain stupid "passing" on instate 5.9 4-star elite OL. Period. Stars aside, he is a great player.

Actually, it would be plain stupid to recruit a kid just because he is a four star and from the state of Tennessee despite the fact that you have other olineman higher on your board.

Again stars aside, he is better than Brett Kendrick and Dan Skipper. There is no reason he should be lower on UT's board than those guys.

edit: You probably missed the 247 article shredding UT in saying that anyone can come into TN and take top recruits.

Kendrick was brought in as a guard while Morris was being recruited as a tackle. As for Morris and Skipper that is debatable, especially given the fact that they both have very similar caliber offer lists and Pittman is one coach that has not given me any reason to doubt him. Also, IDGAF what 247 said. You take the best players regardless of what state they are from.

You have said this before and I'm curious why you are so certain of this. What is it about morris that makes him better than brett or dan? I'm going to assume you haven't seen all of them play in person before so it seems like it really is about stars...

Coach Pittman has never told Brett that he would be a guard. He said the only one of the OL recruits so far that could not play guard is Skipper (for obvious reasons). Brett may indeed end up as a guard, but for now he has been told tackle.

I have talked to several CAK alums who state "they are shocked B.Kendrick was offered, and they think he has a long way to go before he is an starting SEC lineman". However I have seen many interviews from paysites that rave about C.Morris and his ability and upside as an OLineman.

You claim to be kin of Brett and you have seen him grow into the man he is on and off the field. I'm not trying to be inconsiderate, but rather trusting in what I've personally heard. Glad he is a V4L. I want the best playing on Shields-Watkins.

That's your reasoning? I guess my question would then be, why do you trust a casual observer's opinion over, arguably, one of the best OL coaches in the country who has seen them both in camps against DL prospects? And then why do you proclaim on multiple threads here with such certainty that "Morris is better?"

As his brother there is no denying that you are biased. There are few that would disagree that Christian Morris is a more complete prospect in comparison to B.Kendrick who is more of developing SEC talent. I believe Sam Pittman is one of the best, so I am more questioning his logic on the. Brett is a future VOL and I support him. My biggest problem is the Dan Skipper commit over C.Morris. Why take a CO project OT when proven top rated instate talent wants to be in orange. By default Brett falls into same boat because of the many things I have heard. At least Brett is versatile and he could play multiple OL positions.

Maybe because the real experts and not Internet wanna be coaches saw both of them and decided that Skipper was who they wanted?

And because the real experts don't care if somebody is from Tennessee or Antartica, they just want the best players in orange.

Hard to call anyone an 'expert' after seeing the product we put on the field last year.

You must not have seen the same games as everyone else, since our o-line was one of the best in the country this year as opposed to one of the worst last year. Yeah the season was tough, but nobody can complain about the o-line. Sam Pittman earned his keep.

Seen every game just like everyone else. And I have gave Pittman and Graham their due, which is why I would like to see both of them retained. That being said it's hard to take this staff's word at recruiting disorganized when articles come out from in state recruits and high school coaches talking about how disorganized this staff has been on the recruiting trail.

I think we would all agree, whoever is coaching needs to build a fence around the state and get the 8 or 9 highly touted recruits per year and go from there. Morris is another example of a 4 star O-lineman in an area of need wasn't pursued like he should have been and we end up with another diamond in the rough in Skipper which is seemingly defining this class.

Amazing how people trust Rivals more than Sam Pittman. He personally recruited both, evaluated both, and chose Skipper. Organization has been othing to do with it.

May be my perception of your post - but makes it sound like staff never made an effort for Morris which I think they did. If I remember right seems like the Vols
were the first or one of the first decent offers he received. Staff did pursue Morris but he was too busy changing his mind every 5 seconds - playing games.
He had the chance to be a Vol and missed it - not for lack of staff recruiting him. He gave the staff a chance to recruit others at his position and they did.
Never going to wait on one recruit when another tells you he wants to come and take a chance on not getting either.

Would be nice to get all the in state talent but does not make sense for the staff to waste time recruiting someone just because they are in state when others
you want are ready to jump onboard which would allow the staff to focus on building relationships with players at other positions of need.

Dooley wanted 4 OL - maybe new HC will let Pittman/new OL coach take another. If Pittman is not retained - Koehler is probably gone. They may pick back up
recruiting Morris along with others and he may get the chance to change his mind again.

As far as people considering OL recruits 4-5 star or Skipper & any other OL being diamonds in the rough - I will choose to trust Pittman's evals. above the
Rivals of the world. UNC's OL draft stocks should be telling in his ability to spot potential in OL play.

We are not Alabama, LSU, UGA.. We haven't gotten top 5 classes consistently, we can't afford to pass on proven elite OL talent instate for diamonds in the rough. Especially when it is a challenge to land guys inside Tennessee's boarders who weren't unknowns before they committed to UT. If you think it is a good idea to pass on elite talent for projects you should reevaluate your recruiting logic, because its not working.
