'13 TN OT Christian Morris

I don't think Morris fits the new type of OL that Butchco is cultivating. The senior laden starters this season will probably be the last one under Butch averaging 300 per..mainly because they'll tailor to the current strengths. But the conditioning program under Dave Lawson stresses core strength and quick twitch response...no room for lazy arm swings in this new scheme...and that's Christian Morris in a nutshell..not an x's and o's diagram artist but this guy would have been perfect for the type of lineman at the end of the Fulmer era...that ain't now

@iAM_ChrisMorris: Calling me a quitter and said I'm begging for an offer is not going to get me to come to your school. P.S. two staffs has not passed on me

This does demonstrate that the recruits do read the threads at perspective schools.
Which is why I wish our fans would think just a touch before they type.
Morris from that attitude expressed is surely gone, wether it matters or not.
Some of the bigger recruits we want may read ours if they are "on the fence" so let's keep it clean and positive if possible.
I love my vols and wanna sell this program.

If a recruit is run off just because of what he reads on message boards, then in all honestly that recruit needs to grow a pair and man up instead of *****ing all the time.

I disagree!
This choice can be difficult and the feel of a program and vibe can be changes by a single opinion.... Bit of extreme example but look at foster and auburn last night.
Recruiting is salesmanship. We have a great product but so do others.
Let's sell the vols, fill the recruiting coffers with great players, and rebuild this program.
Sell it! Go vols!

Just understand that a lot of these kids don't have the greatest home life. They live in poorer neighborhoods and all they really know is to protect themselves and their interest at all cost.

I'm aware of that, but that doesn't change just because they get recruited.

Looks like jmoore ran him off. Way to go, j-mo! Not really.

I wanted Morris in Orange, but I do think he is being a little overly sensitive about a flip remark by some recruiting nerd on a message board, when so many fans were singing his praises and welcoming him to our program.

These kids are 17-18 year old. They are in the process of making the largest decision they have ever made. I think the majority will visit the message boards of the schools they are considering. I think that is part of the recruiting process now. Many of the things said about some of the recruits is totally out of line. All the negativity has to hurt recruiting. I think MzTerry has made that point clear concerning a recruit she and Croom are close to has ruled out TN because of what they read on the message boards. She did not mention a name but they are very close to AK. Now Morris has ruled UT. out because of negative comments.
When posting we all need to keep in mind that words have meanings and they can hurt. These are kids that are being slammed by people that don't know them for no reason.

He's lining up a bunch of excuses as to why he is not coming to UT. Why would he be so sensitive to comments that appear to be relatively tame? I mean the quitter comment was rough, but had he not started this entire process with the cryptic tweet and the way he handled his recruitment he wouldn't have had to read other posts that apparently hurt his feelings.

What Mr. Morris needs to realize that this is a message board in which UT fans discuss the recruits and attempt to figure out where they are leaning. While we have our share of idiots, so does every other fan base. I'm sure if he went to a UCLA, or Ole Miss fan site he would see as bad if not far worse behavior if something doesn't go their way. Point is a 'grown man' needs to realize that you shouldn't put a lot of stock in a few mouthy fans who in general are not even accepted by their own.

Oh and toughen up kid! The pressure cooker only gets turned up from this point on. Got to learn to roll with the punches and do the best you can do, and not really worry what others say or think.

Morris was appreciated and wanted by almost everybody. He would have found a very good home on our team, so it's a shame that isn't going to happen. Some people need to think again before they click that Post Quick Reply icon.

No it wasn't a quote from Hubbs..JMoore just worded it really badly.

Don't be ridiculous it's not JMoore's fault he's not coming here..he obviously never wanted to or he'd already be committed.

Recruits choose from the schools that show interest in them. The can either speak with these schools or not. The recruit, through their discussions with the schools showing mutual interest, can decide to visit 5 schools on official trips.

The recruit can then choose the school that he wishes to spend his college days attending and playing, in this case, football.

ANY recruit that bases any decision on anything that he reads on the internet regarding which school to attend really needs some adult in his circle of support to explain to him how dumb of a decision that is.

Tennessee football is moving forward. I welcome any recruit that the staff believes can thrive in the new environment that is being put in place.

The last thing that I would say to any recruit who even considers taking anything that they read on the internet remotely seriously concerning their recruitment......you have NO idea as to what the agenda is of an unknown / nameless poster to any website.

NOBODY really knows who the posters on blind websites support...school affiliation-wise.

I think you are both right. I remember one guy on the North thread who said something in words that were highly insulting to his father. There was absolutely no reason for him to turn the situation and use the bad word he did, but even after I called him out on it, the man still did not understand what he had done wrong. I don't think there is any solution to this problem, but people should realize that there are different standards of behavior for different places. You can't go to work talking in a professional environment like you talk at a party with your friends. People naturally talk about the pros and cons of recruits here, because this is a recruiting message board. But we ought not be insulting about it when there is no need for that kind of talk.

I agree with you for the most part. I can't recall any negative post About this kid leading up to his visit or during his visit where this recruitment went wrong. He was being praised by the masses and from what I remember we all wanted him badly. IMO all this is sour grapes or a cover for him deciding Knoxville wasn't for him.

I'm just saying its probably a better policy to be cautious because we don't know all or even most of the facts for any one kid's recruitment. We just make assumptions based on cryptic reports made by people who we think know slightly more than we do.

There are a lot of off hand comments made on this board that are potentially offensive that bring absolutely nothing to the conversation. There's probably no way to stop it, but I don't think we should assume that those kinds of comments are harmless in all cases just because we've made assumptions that make us believe they are harmless in this case. If that makes sense.

And I'm not talking about jmoore or what he said because yeah I agree that seemed innocuous at the time, and seemed like that's what Hubbs was saying.

Someone saying a kid begged for an offer is far from inappropriate. Plus JMoore is a huge advocate of greeting Morris if I recall right. Now going on these kids social medias and bashing them is a whole different story and shouldn't be tolerated by anyone's standards.

We know this kid reads VN. This is the second time he has quoted something said here.

How is sitting here and posting assumptions that he is poor, fatherless, a quitter, fat, lazy or anything else that has been said over the last 5 pages any different from tweeting those things to him when we KNOW he is reading this or somebody is reading it and telling him?

What I'm saying transcends one specific recruit. Make excuses about how it maybe didn't affect this one guy all you want, but at this point I think it's pretty ignorant to assume that things that are said here can have absolutely no effect on recruiting.

Okay so what I don't understand is what he wants out of all this? He is committed to UCLA and went to ole miss this weekend. Then after going to his states school and meeting the new coach he stops talking to the media. If Memphis kids think ole miss is going to be a "dynasty", I seriously can't wait for them all to get there and realize what division that they play in. But hey its not all about winning, Good luck!

Let's not forget that it would very easy for a rival fan (or coach) to pose as a UT fan and post insulting tweets to turn a recruit against Tennessee. I'm sure it happens more than we realize, especially with all of the negative recruiting in the SEC.

I really hope Morris comes to UT--we need him!
