'13 TN SG Markel Crawford

So in your prediction we miss on hubbs, king, jw3, Johnson and Nichols?

I think Hubbs is our best chance of the 5. Even though they are great friends, I don't think Nichols will follow if Hubbs decides to come. Honestly, I can see both going to Duke. I think it's a bad sign if any of them commits any time soon. Our best bet is if they take the wait and see approach on how Stokes and UT develop and sign in the spring.

Hey fair enough, obviously I hope you're wrong, but I can definitely understand your opinion.

Good luck to Markel. I like his playing style and toughness. I'll be hoping he does well when Memphis plays and that he fully recovers from his ACL. I know how that feels.

Looking like the Crawford committment had a VERY negative impact on Johnson...

"they're not one of my favorites right now"

Crawford wanted to stay home all along. Memphis was late to offer for a variety of reasons too complicated to go into here, but but once Pastner turned up the heat it was over. It was starting to go that direction in early July, and the injury accelerated it.

Just re-read the M. Crawford thread and strongly agree with The 'Dinger. The injury made it happen now; would he have committed to UM otherwise? Won't really know until the other cards fall, but how they fall could be influenced by Markel's decision. Sort of a "catch 22".

UT could simply switch over to J. Johnson and full-court press him. Agree with MC that Johnson is somewhat optional now relative to Tiger needs. Unless his commit directly helps us sign a Big Fish, I would pass on him. Another scholly to use on a BIG-ger need or a gift from the heavens (K. Frazier, R. Jefferson-type dream). Or just another one in your back pocket for down the road.

Somewhat ironic that UM possibly lost out on Stokes due to circumstances, and now UT probably loses out on Crawford due to injury. Down the line, I think both programs will benefit greatly.

Great News!

Well, technically, I'm right, but I understand what you mean. I was living in Kville at the time (and still am) and I remember the turmoil clearly. The cloud pretty much tanked the end of that 2010-2011 season for you guys, even though Pearl had his most talented squad since he began at UT.

I remember I was driving to Gatlinburg on the day that Ut played Michigan in the first round NCAA game (Memphis played Zona directly after). We arrived at Smoky Mountain Brewery just in time for the Memphis game to start, and that was the first time I heard the final score of the UT-Michigan game. I remeber thinking "man, they just laid down." All the Pearlgate stuff started taking its toll and by the time the NCAAs rolled around, the guys didn't even seem like they wanted to play anymore.

No you're not right, you make it sound like it was not a big deal. If you remember so much then you remember the very weekend Adonis visited UT was the same weekend Pearl did his press conference admitting he lied. It could not have been worse timing for UT. The fact he committed in October proves nothing. We didn't say he came straight home and committed to UM and said it was because of the NCAA troubles. He liked UT and it played a big part. I still think he would have gone to UM anyway but you simply cannot take the truth without spinning it. You are the most delusional fan I have ever seen!

MC is actually one of the more reasonable Memphis fans I've met.

That's honestly not saying much though haha, KuoState makes MC look like a saint, now that dudes brutal.

The new Memphis poster seems pretty rational though, not really sure what to think of it haha.

What I said was "Adonis committed to UM while Pearl was still at UT". Whatever implication you think that carries with it is what you have personally drawn, not what I implied. That statement is correct.

What are the chances of getting the thread title changed to "Memphis Commit" like the football recruiting thread does? Not sure if anyone really cares, but it would add some consistancy. I assume a mod would have to handle that.
