'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

You know he's whining about carries. Do you really think he'll go for that? Plus he's not really a rough and rumble type of player.

I agree. This cat is slow by Big 10 standards and doesn't appear to have that downhill nasty streak IMO. He has not been anywhere near impressive since day 1.

He was slow playing against comparable talent in the AA game. He didn't show any power or drive either. The LBs were blasting him. His big runs should've been scores with that advertised 4.4 speed.

Knowing what we know now, I wouldn't have committed to Dooley either. He made what he thought to be the best decision for him. Obviously it didn't work out, but hindsight is always 20/20.

No thanks. He won't see the field by the time he's eligible. Hurd, Paulk, possibly a third back from this year, and whatever stud RBs we get next year. It'll just be one less recruit we can take next year because we'll be that much closer to 85.

I am just curious but what makes you think Green is not good enough to be right behind Hurd on the depth chart?

What makes you think he is? He's not in the two deep at Michigan, he'll have to sit a full season, Paulk will be full strength, and I don't think anyone doubts that we're going to pull some really impressive backs in the 2015 class.

Maybe he would be, maybe he wouldn't. He's not a guy that will accept a backup role if that's what he ends up with though, and my gut tells me we'll have a lot of good backs by the time he'd be eligible.

Has this guy even played since he's been at Michigan?

Yes, I saw a little of him late in their game against UConn. He ran the ball just a couple of times in the fourth quarter, I think. Didn't break anything, but he didn't get a real chance to really get even warmed up. From the way he ran thought, he left me with the impression that he is one of those backs that runs stronger as the game progresses.

If he wants to walk-on at this point, I am cool with him coming in. By the time he is eligible, the combination of Green, Hurd, Paulk, Pickett, and whoever else Butch gets would be the deepest backfield the Vols have had since '98.

Take the guy, regardless. In this S&C program, he'll be thinner than he's ever been in his life. Sucks he'd have to wait for a year, but a backfield with him, Paulk and Hurd would be sick, in 2015. Plus, he'd get to practice with the team, in the mean time. He'd be great depth, if nothing else.

You infected the group! Im still pro green. i didnt have a problem with you not wanting him, just the reasoning sounded like you were a jilted lover not a football fan. Im actually more upset with your eval on emma watson lol we cool brah?

Yeah we good. Emma is ok I wouldn't throw her out of bed but I like a little more curve to my swerve.

As for Green, I would say taking a guy because he isn't happy with his playing time as a freshman where he decided to go is no bueno most of the time.

Very small class next, so we will be very selective in taking 1-2 running backs. In my mind, the question is he worth possibly negatively impacting an elite 2015 back. To go even further, is he better than Swinney or Weber? My vote is to pass.

You couldn't throw Watson out of a bed even if you wanted. Hermione does as she pleases...

Not saying he will transfer to UT because I highly doubt it, but how many of you would be upset if he did? Could you honestly say that you would have a problem with it? As I said in an earlier post, give him another year of strength and conditioning. If he's out of shape and not lean enough to be a productive back right away, then let him do what he has to do in order to be just that.:twocents:

You don't have to worry about that. It's no different than if he had chosen us this past Feburary. In Feburary were we saying "oh don't sign him, we need good RB's on 2014 and 15"? No, of course not. We didn't get any RB's last class so there would be no negative affect. His NCAA clock is already running.

For all we know he could have been promised playing time.

I don't know which is more stressful... Having too many players and deciding which ones to take... or not having enough players and trying to get them to come?
I know the first option is better.. but its so stressful even for a fan...

Quote from the article for those that can't access -

"Derrick Green, Hoke’s prize career-making recruit. Green apparently hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with his position coach, mostly due to playing time and the fact that he believes less talented players are getting snaps over him due to experience, something Green was promised wouldn’t happen at Michigan. Green is also disgusted by the lack of offensive diversity at Michigan, and like Kalis, is very jealous of the play-calling in Columbus that Carlos Hyde is enjoying as RB for the Buckeyes. Green is a guy who may stay due to family pressure, but also may look into the possibility of switching uniforms and suiting up for either Ole Miss or Tennessee."
