'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Yes he committed to Miss State over a week ago but flipped to UA today. Sounds like the staff is looking at him as a TE not LB but a good enough athlete either side of the ball. Also he will not count against the signing class since his father player for Bryant. He should fall under the Bryant Scholarship rule which means until he plays in a game will not count against the 85 rule. So basically a great free pickup.

I also would not worry about Gavin with UA. UA seems to only have 1 target left at ILB and that is R McMillian who currently has us at the top with OSU and possibly on 2 more OLB(Jack type) one being L Carter and the other being R Evans who is visiting UA today and rumors are he may have committed just a little bit ago.

WTF is this? Free player because his dad played for Bear? WTF!!?!?

God i hate Alabama

You have to know by now bama has it's own rules. I would like to hear how that works. TW said unless he plays in a game, he does not count. What if they have a full 85 man roster and an injury forces the kid into action in say the 5th game of the year? Something tells me noone would say a word and the kids "scholarship" would just be there. "Keep moving, nothing to see here".

Maybe CBJ needs to start the General Neyland scholarship. Free to anyone who hates bama. :)

We have multiple kids that there dad has played for Fulmer and other UT Coaches so does that mean we can just not count them until they play and just keep taking commitments?

J/K sarcasm

A recruited player only counts towards the football scholarship numbers when he plays in a game. If he never plays in a game, regardless of practice participation, he never counts towards the scholarship numbers. If he ever plays, even 1 snap, then he counts.

If a player is not recruited, he does not count, regardless of game action.

If the Bryant Scholarship recipient plays during his 1st two years on campus, then he counts towards the recruiting class that he enrolled with. If he does not play during those 2 years, then he does not count as an initial scholarship - again, only counting towards the 85 when he plays, if he is classified as a recruited player.

That how it works FWIW.

I ask my question again then. IF bama takes a full class and this "free player" is forced into action his 1st year there, where does his scholarship to play come from?

It all sounds shady as hell to me. Hope we don't recruit Travis Henry's 13 kids. They can just sign with UT and would be freebies per the bammers scholarship guidelines.

The problem is not Alabama. They have always found ways to cheat. The problem is Mike Slive who lets them get away with it.

I guess it would depend on when the player gets hurts. If it is before the deadline to declare them a redshirt it would replace him on the roster and then be counted as a initial counter with his incoming class as well. That is if it happens in the 1st 2 years. I forget how much a player is allowed to play, get hurt, and then redshirt them. I remember when Hightower went out early in the season and that discussion was going on.

You do realize that Slive did not come to the SEC until 2002. That the NCAA ruled on this several decades ago. It was questioned again when the NCAA have major complaints about Miami and Nebraska in the late 80's and 90's putting football recruits on tennis, wrestling, and whatever scholarships to go over the max limit on a team. So they looked at all these scholarships and grandfathered a few in. Only the ones that did not apply specifically to athletics to earn it.

There's no way this BS is true! If it is then all schools have to do is make up there own and it couldn't be turned down.

Explaining the Bryant Scholarship

That sums it up and how the NCAA views it. And since the whole issue with Miami and Nebraska the NCAA clamped down on these types of scholarships. Only a few were grandfathered in and the NCAA no longer allows them to be created from my understanding.

So the NCAA no longer allows them as they are obviously shady. Yet bama gets to still use them as they see fit. Yup, sounds about right. :eek:lol:

And FTR it is maxed out at $4000. So at best tuition is covered and room & board is not.

UT needs the "Brick by Brick" scholarship offer. Anyone who knocks Saban's teeth out with a brick counts against Bammer's 85 limit instead of UT's!

Is now a 4* on the Composite due to a bump on ESPN, I believe. Now brings us to 10 total 4* or 5* players, which is top 5 in the country.
