'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

He should see other schools before he commits.....imo lambert had been committed since August or thereabout

Lambert's situation is completely different. Bryant hasn't seen many schools because of fear over his grades. Lambert visited and looked at other schools prior to his commitment.

His ability to get in still isn't 100% confirmed at this point, and he needs to make sure he has a back-up plan. What is wrong with that? It's his future. A fan's perspective is obviously much different.

Agree completely

After the Lambert debacle, I kind of agree now. Tell recruits that once you are committed, then be 100% committed… No visits. Also, let them know on the front and that if they decide to take visits after being committed, then their scholarship will be pulled and we will recruit someone else for that position. For some reason, it usually does not end up well for us when a committed prospect starts taking visits.

I'm trying to play the devil's advocate here. Hypothetical situation: a kid is committed for 6 months, takes no more visits, and does not show any signs of wavering. Numbers are tight, and a better prospect wants to commit that plays the same position. What do you think should happen? More often than not, the HS kid that was loyal gets told sorry and to explore other options. In the meantime, other classes get full, and the player ends up scrambling to find a school.

Obviously, there are many potential situations, but this happens all the time, and it's not exactly fair. It's a business, and it's a business driven by winning. You can have guidelines while making sure the kids are safe if something does not work out.

All JMO.

Bryant was a wildcard from day 1. But the NFL thing shouldn't sway Bryant if the coaches play the 'fact card'. We are 7th in D-1 football with 30 and Miami is 3rd with 38. While they have 8 more players, not exactly the wide gap they maybe trying to portray. We get guys in the league as well.

This is why you shouldnt get upset when kids are recruited over. Its dog eat dog and everyone is looking out for themselves.

Very good points. I just don't see us recruiting any other LBs right now, so his spot doesn't seem to be in jeopardy. It can't be grades, because everyone keeps saying Miami has higher admission standards than we do. If he were visiting WV or Marshall, then the grades argument would make sense. Who knows. Butch and company have given me no reason to doubt their recruiting abilities up to this point, so I will continue to roll with whatever they want to do and trust their plan.

Hmmm....just thought about this. Any chance that coaches wanted 5 LBs before season ended, but now since it seems that AJ might be returning, then that might be the first position they ask someone to look around if we need to free up a spot for this class?

Gavin Bryant may be the best of all of them. Only time will tell.

For now, IMO, I wouldn't trade Bryant for anyone unless it's Clifton Garrett.

I agree. A bit premature yet, but Bryant seems to have as much, if not more upside, than any of them. Would hate to lose..

Would suck to lose for more reasons than he is a linebacker. Although i would rather see him in the ACC if he does not VFL himself.

This was always a concern. If he doesn't make grades we lose him; if he does, he probably gets an in-state offer. We have a lot of guys coming in, plus we might be able to get in on Nyles Morgan if we push.

I know Bruin doesn't believe Bryant will be a Vol. We should allow him to make a double or nothing self ban bet.

For Athletes? I sincerely doubt it.

LOL

Miiami is harder to get into that UT for athletes as far as test scores go (maybe some other requirements too, like foreign language). Tennessee and other SEC schools have some sort of online class restriction (can't remember what), that Miami doesn't always have. That's why Beau Sandland dropped SEC schools from his choices last year.

Maybe he is not a fan of pressure. Playing ball in front of 74 people, 62 of which just snorted a triple line and are seeing a double headed unicorn in the sky would surely be less pressure. JMO

Michael Irvin says not only will he be playing in front of peeps that just snorted a triple line, he'll be playing with peeps that just snorted a triple line too.
