Obviously, the big recruiting news this week was the commitment from linebacker Dillon Bates. Bates actually committed to Jones and the Vol coaches a month ago. As Bates noted, how the coaching staff recruited him was big in his decision. It was never about Bates following his dad or anything like that. Jones made it clear to Bates when they talked back in December after Jones had been hired that they would recruit Dillon for Dillon and that's exactly what Jones did. The head coach was very hands on in Bates' recruitment emailing him, Facebook messaging him, Twitter message etc. And any time Bates called the office the phone call never ended without Jones talking to Bates. But the biggest key was the number of times that Bates got to campus since Jones was hired. Bates made at least 3 if not 4 unofficial visits to campus before committing.
