"I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help the team for us to get to our goal. I'm just trying to do my best and make as many plays possible," Bates said. "Whether it's 13 tackles or blocked punts or scoring on offense or doing whatever."

"That weekend was definitely a positive even though we came up short by a few inches," Bates explained. "That whole entire weekend was definitely a positive and not just from a recruiting aspect, but showing where Tennessee is now and where it's going to be with just a few key players. That weekend was definitely a positive even though we came up short in the game."

"Talking to other recruits, they said they had one of their best recruiting visits they've had. That atmosphere and that game was awesome," Bates said. "I hung out with Dewayne Hendrix and Clifton Garrett. I talked to Andrew Williams and his dad and they were impressed. The key is getting all these big guys to come and visit and once they come and visit they'll see why everyone is choosing Tennessee."

"I was watching it at a grill here and right when they won I ran around the restaurant," Bates said. "There were a few South Carolina fans in there and I had to give them a hard time. It was awesome and it just shows where they are going to go."

Bates plans to be back in Knoxville for the Vandy game.

Bates had a monster game with 21 tackles on defensive and had four catches and a touchdown on offense as Bates didn't leave the field in Menendez's 35-14 over Ponte Vedra. Palatka is next week.

“it was awesome[.] obviously, with a win, it would have been a lot better[.] but just to see how the town was after that big game and just see how the players responded to coach (butch) jones’ coaching and everything like that was great.

“and then just to see how many recruits there were — i mean, there were 60-something recruits there — so just to finally get a chance to get all the big recruits on campus to see what tennessee is like, that’s really all it takes. It was just altogether a great trip.”

“it really just felt like a family,” he said. “that’s one of the big reasons why i wanted to come to tennessee and why i love that coaching staff so much, just because they treat it as a family. They treat the team as a family, and they just kind of showed me that on the trip.

“and i know it’s a recruiting trip, and it’s not always going to be like that. But, i mean, it just shows another side of them and shows their family. It shows where they’re from, where they live and everything like that. And then, also, i got a chance to hang out with some of the players and see who i’m going to be in the locker room with for the next four years.

Bates also played his role as a recruiter during his visit:

“I got my 2 cents in, trying to get them,” he said. “I asked them how they feel and how they like it, and told them it’s all about this, and this is why I like it and this is my kind of opinion on things.

He said that schools have not stopped contacting him trying to get him to visit. He said Bama, UCLA, A&M, USC, and Oklahoma all still try to contact him.

Vote for Bates... unlimited votes

Someone's in there dropping votes with me. We've done about 100 in the last 5 minutes, it's super easy. Unfortunately, Dillon has 3753 as of this writing, which is only good for roughly 9% of the vote. The leader has over 40%.

Let's change this, VolNation.
