All things considered, Jakob did a good job tonight. I'm looking forward to reviewing his play since JRM played inside some but the big thing is that we run stopped well and I didn't see much in the way of horrible mistakes. That's about all you can ask for and more from a MLB who is a true frosh getting his first start. I think a lot of folks underestimate the position and its responsibilities.
As someone else said - some good, some not so good but I'd add that I don't recall catastrophic plays either which is a win all its own given he's a true frosh.
The play that broke our back was when Malone tossed a ball he had in his hands to the defense. We were about to either tie the game or go up by four.
Malone will either grow from that or fold up. I think he's a good competitor and will come back pissed off for greatness. I predict a marginal performance against Vandy and then he blows up in the bowl game and has everyone amped up for 2015.
How many tackles did he have?
Competitor? He half way runs routes and never makes half an effort unless it hits him in stride. Kid has a lot of things to figure out. We saw it in preseason practice highlights but it's the end of the season and he still plays like he doesn't care. Just not impressed with him at all, talent to be the best WR we have but no effort.
Before anyone blasts me go back and show me one tough catch he has made then look at how many he made no effort on at all.
All things considered, no on in that group could have made up for AJ's production. Also, Jakob is going to have to work on shedding blocks. A soon as an OLineman put hands on him he was locked up, something that didn't happen to AJ on a regular basis. Our offense lost us the game, but AJ not being there was def a catalyst.
