All things considered, no on in that group could have made up for AJ's production. Also, Jakob is going to have to work on shedding blocks. A soon as an OLineman put hands on him he was locked up, something that didn't happen to AJ on a regular basis. Our offense lost us the game, but AJ not being there was def a catalyst.

AJ used to struggle shedding blocks

We really missed his standard 12-15 tackles Saturday

He's also a TRUE freshman too. He'll get much better at this(I hope lol).

Both good points nick/breaker but it just shows how thin we are across the board. 18 scholarship players, not including redshirts, didn't play Saturday. When you have to lean on freshman it's rarely a good situation, and we have to do that a lot.

The Dobbs effect tinted peoples glasses as to how weak we are in certain areas. Mizzou exploited our offense perfectly, as they do many other teams not named Indiana. We will learn a lot from this tough loss.

Our OC didn't counter with a few shots downfield early to back the secondary off. They were daring us to go deep.

Roll him out.

My thought exactly. Run a two tight set, roll him to one side and chip the end on that side with the tight end. Other tight end follows over the middle (which works like mad for us, but was COMPLETELY forgotten in the UF and Mizzou games). Should give Dobbs more time, puts pressure on the LBs and DBs of Mizzou to defend him running, thus opening up receivers. I didn't see it all game.

I believe the only time that we rolled him out was for the two point conversion, and that was a pass/run option.

Or use TE to help block. I rarely ever see that, Hurd is pretty much the only help the OL get.

YYou invent ways to make deep throws. There are plenty of bad OL out there whose QB can be given time to make a few deep throws per game.

This - in bold. They don't do that. They just run their offense as is.

It does not always take 3-5 seconds to throw a deep route - especially a streak, go or even deep post route. It takes a deeper drop with a TE and/or RB chip blocking the first guy to rush deep. Instead of 3-5 step, it's a 5-7 step, get the ball out with enough air under it.

If they are going to stay within 10 yards of the LOS and count on a playmaker doing his thing to break it, they better be getting the ball in VP's hands much more. That's the only real playmaker they have they can do that at this point.

Uhhh Doc? 0-3 actually... I was at the 2000 Cotton Bowl where we got plastered by Kansas State. :ermm: My family thinks I'm nuts but it's pretty much decided that I've attended my last Vols game...bad mojo even overpowered my lucky Vols shirt, which was worn properly. :pinch:

yes that is true...jj got to learn th read and react on during the play...this is one of his most important development areas.

ich think, that aj´s participation would have changed the result of the game. for sure he does a lot of things better than jj...that have to be cause he is a potential nfl player.

IMO it took AJ 2 full years of starting before he got decent at it. Last year he was good, this year he has been great. I hope it doesn't take JJ or any of our young LBs that long to play dominantly.

This. AJ is a prime example of the difference between these coaching staffs. He has improved dramatically over the past two season. I'm very proud of him regardless of this incident. He loves this school, is fans, and the state of Tennessee.
