As to the US being a superpower... our status as a superpower has naught to do with football or futbol/soccer or how fans celebrate.

i´m happy about the fact, that our american friends take this role ! europeans can´t take it cause the every country got it´s own interests.

so you got to take the superpower.....and we are focussing on our strengths.....

That is one sweet mother effing car!!

Oh, and he was joking.

It's not all about tackles, it would be where he would reach his full potential. Forgive me for wanting what is best for the player and his abilities. What good is it to have someone that makes tackles four and five yards down field? Not a damn bit of good if you ask me.

In agreement with you FWIW re: position. AJ is still a good LB & player but not elite IMO. AJ is not good enough in space & pass defense and has a lack of impact plays on his resume to be elite.

Thig himself said just today impact plays are the #1 thing he needs out of AJ this year. Elite linebackers make those plays...TOs, TFLs, get your team off the field on 3rd downs.

Good thing AJ's career at UT is not over yet!

Elite ain't a word you slap on a good player.

Al Wilson was elite. Look at his game tape. Intensity. Making plays and doing whatever it takes to win. Players were scared of him.

AJ is a good tackler. That's it. Hope he ups his game this year. We need him to.

No slight towards Wilson, but he also had a way better supporting cast on defense.

I saw a couple off the wall comments in here at which your post might be directed, but those of us saying he is not elite are not "poor mouthing" him. World of difference.

AJ has been a good football player for us, stuck with the program through tough times. and he has his senior season ahead of him in which im rooting like hell he gets to a bowl game.

But, elite players dont get mid-round draft grades. He has a lot of room to improve certain aspects of his game. Either way, football time is right around the corner and a healthy discussion about one of our best players has me ready for fall camp!

Having his pal Maggit back and not having a coach named Sunseri and I believe many of the doubters will be reminded of the talent AJ has.

I'm not even trying to debate elite. It's a damned subjective term. That said if any of us had a relative who was an all sec linebacker, started as a freshman, and broke multiple school records we'd be telling anyone who'd listen how elite he was. Define elite however you want though.

In regards to draft stock being the measuring stick for elite. Arian Foster (official spokesperson for tacos and UT fan hateraid) says hi.

2009 NFL Draft
Foster ranked 24th among running backs available in the 2009 NFL Draft, according to Sports Illustrated.[15] Although projected as a fifth-to-sixth rounder, Foster went undrafted.[16]

Jus sayin

So you are trying to debate elite? : ) Haha. No worries, there is certainly a degree of subjectivity to it.

Unrelated to AJ. The last time I remember seeing a UT defensive player single handedly change the trajectory of a game in our favor was EB in his last game against KY. I am looking forward to seeing more of that from the new guys coming in.

Yea in OT wasnt it? I wish I appreciated watching him more when he played. Now he was elite!

I think Maggitt has that potential. Just need the kid to stay healthy. He is capable of wrecking a game in an opponent's backfield. I have visions of that safety vs. nc state in my head. That was a huge play in that game.

I believe so on the OT. I tried to find the clip on YouTube but couldn't. I get that's the kind of game changing people want to see out of AJ or anybody on the D. Hopefully as a unit they take big strides forward. Maggit is the soul of that side of the ball. You could see it in him on the sideline even when he wasn't playing last year. He and AJ should really feed each other.

God forbid a conversation breaks out about another linebacker on our own team.
