There are some players I could see picking apart their true value/talent. Maybe I'm crazy but AJ isn't one of them. I'm done derailing Jakobs thread though. He's the kind of guy I hope we see disrupting the hell out of the backfield and making the entire D look better.
For me that's been our number one issue. Lack of pressure. No pressure leads to lack of contain, lack of contain leads to space and space is where any D even a decent one gets eaten alive by a competent offense. Khalil plus guys like Jakob causing a ruckus will make all the defensive players look better.

You're right. We need to gain pressure before anything else on D matters. Even Deion Sanders couldn't cover forever. If you get pressure, defenses will make the offense make more mistakes. Mistakes = bad plays or turn overs.

There's something called an ignore button Stalin. Last time I knew, we aren't in Soviet Russia.

I'm going to keep posting, so I can annoy you. Happy now?

If he player for bama, he wouldn't be starting. I view him for the player he is. Not the fantasy that people can develop. Last year, he was slow and was terrible at the point of impact. He did have good field awareness, and he never gave up. He's a decent tackler at best.

I think being on a bad D makes him look better. It's like the decent looking chick next to her ugly friends. The ugly girls make the decent looking girl look a lot better.

AJ would start for any SEC team this year, don't kid yourself. Dumbest d**n post I've seen in a while.

Sorry but lacking pressure up the middle has nothing to do with lack of contain. You can contain the edges all day long and without pressure up the middle, space is created with time to throw the ball. Now pass rush off the edge is a whole different story.

Burger is basically saying that anytime your LB has a ton of tackles, poor DL play is providing them. He's not taking anything away from AJ with that analogy. His other statements about AJ are crazy. He still makes the stops even though they were basically served up to him.

You see that on any bad defense. Poor Dline play did provide a lot of his tackles. I didn't say he sucks. I said he's not in the top 10% of linebackers which is elite. He's a very good player on a bad defense. He wouldn't be here if he was. He would of been a 2nd to 3rd round linebacker in the last draft. if he was elite.

People throw the word elite around like it means nothing. I always use the top 10% as the elite club. There's only 14 teams in the SEC, so there is only one or two elite middle linebackers in our conference.

Who are the two you like better? My top 5 are:
1. Benardrick McKinney
2. AJ Johnson
3. Ramik Wilson
4. Kwon Alexander
5. Trey DePriest

Alexander and DePriest kind of fit MLB, even though not really. One is a SILB and one is a SOLB IIRC.

I'd have to see who's still at our competitors tomorrow morning. Is Kris Frost a MLB?

Yeah he rotated with another dude for playing time last year he's good though.

Being a guy that studies NFL drafts, I just love McKinney because he's 6'5" 250ish playing MLB. Dude could be a great WDE if he wanted to be. Wilson is a stat machine for UGA. Not the best LB, but really darn good. Comparable to Ogletree a few years back (who was a first round pick).

We'll see this fall.

I'm a big fan of your posts, Burger. Keep fighting the good fight.

Have you considered running for office as a tea party candidate?

AJ can play. He's been our best defensive player for the past three years with Maggitt on the shelf. I'm inclined to give our first-team All SEC linebacker the benefit of the doubt.

IMO if A.J. Was coming in with '14 class he'd probably be moved to DE. Also in the NfL I think he'll be a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 LB

AJ just needs to stay off the field on third and long, or most coverage situation. He is a VFL, plays hard , and trains hard. He just has some shortcomings like everyone else. I'd like to see him lay the wood a little more, and stop the runner, not tackle him forward for another two yards. But he didn't have a lot of help last year.

I can't wait until Bates gets acclimated and learns the D, he going to be amazing in coverage and he can tackle with the best of them. I really think Bates will be an All-American before he heads off to make millions.

Starting on the UT teams from '11-'13 is like being the smartest kid in a special ed class. The '12 team he started on was a special ed class.

Elite is being in the top 10% in the country. He's not in the top 10% in his conference.

the smartest kids in special ed classes are borderline brilliant and gifted quite often. If you are going to be stupid enough to use the comparison, at least be accurate.
And starting at middle lb against LSU and against top 10 teams each year is strong.

You forgot Tits McGee

It would not be the first time that coaches are wrong. Hell Dooley is the one that put him at MLB iirc. He played DE/OLB in HS...he played with his hand in the dirt.

You know.. he expected to get drafted fairly high in the NFL as a LB. I guess all of the NFL scouts project him a DE as well at the next level:crazy:
