'14 FL LB Jakob Johnson (UT Signee 2/5/14)

You know.. he expected to get drafted fairly high in the NFL as a LB. I guess all of the NFL scouts project him a DE as well at the next level:crazy:

Tiny expected to get drafted fairly high as well. You never know, but IMO he doesn't project well at MLB in the league regardless of what you tell yourself. The scouts haven't projected him as anything yet, but the draft projection services are all over the board when it comes to ranking people. He does have a hard time disengaging blocks and he is bad in space. That's not MLB material. He gives his all for UT, but IMO he would be a better fit a DE. At the next level, he may get moved to OLB or DE in a 3-4.

You may be right at where he may play in the NFL but when you make as many tackles as he does then I would say he puts himself in a position to make the tackle by shedding blocks and taking good angles.

IMO, A.J. Johnson is just as talented a player as Brandon Spikes. He's probably about as quick as Spikes, the only reason he doesn't have the bone crunching tackles that Spikes had is because of the vast difference of talent around him in comparison to those Florida teams. He's got a lot of young talent around him now, and I think you will see more sacks and interceptions this year. Probably less tackles too.

If he player for bama, he wouldn't be starting. I view him for the player he is. Not the fantasy that people can develop. Last year, he was slow and was terrible at the point of impact. He did have good field awareness, and he never gave up. He's a decent tackler at best.

I think being on a bad D makes him look better. It's like the decent looking chick next to her ugly friends. The ugly girls make the decent looking girl look a lot better.

So he's a decent tackler, yet will most likely be the 2nd leading tackler in school history after this coming season? Don't be an idiot

Some believe he would have more tackles if he was a DE:loco:

It's not all about tackles, it would be where he would reach his full potential. Forgive me for wanting what is best for the player and his abilities. What good is it to have someone that makes tackles four and five yards down field? Not a damn bit of good if you ask me.

AJ was much better sideline to sideline last year. I watched him pursue a lot of plays and make the tackle. He'll be a year better on scheme and conditioning. With some more playmakers around him it should open up some opportunities. Maybin, Maggitt and Bates will provide a lot of speed out there as well.
If Jakob is full-time at end, then can also provide some speed on the edge and push a lot of plays back towards the middle. I'd be very surprised if AJ doesn't play on Sundays. And i've been very critical of his lack of big play ability.

His play last year didn't look like an NFL player. He rarely made an impact play, and often was the main reason the other team converted 3rd and long.

His best attribute is that he's a sure tackler, I rarely saw anyone get away from him once he made contact.

I think Butch said to him motovationally that he's the leading tackler after a 5+ yard game in history, which I think has so truth to it. A dominant NFL lb is going to make plays at the college level, not just tackle people who are funneled his way.

He showed an flashes over his career, but I think he's got a lot to prove in coverage and in making plays at the lime of scrimmage, not just being Mr Reliable after the runner already gained several yards.

Reasonable position and probably close to what he was advised by the NFL draft analysis folks that prompted his return for a senior season. Good player but needs to improve in some areas to be a high NFL draft pick.

Was it him or Austin Johnson that was the MLB??? :)

I don't know, BB! I'm confused now. I thought AJ and Curt have started every game since they stepped on campus, except when Curt was hurt. Did AJ start at Sam LB as a FR? Maybe he did, and I'm right but wrong that he started at Mike. I think Austin did start at Mike.

Most of his tackles were five yards down field. Would you say he's better than Al Wilson because AJ has more tackles?

It would not be the first time that coaches are wrong. Hell Dooley is the one that put him at MLB iirc. He played DE/OLB in HS...he played with his hand in the dirt.

Aj isn't a good pass rusher and struggles shedding blocks once ol get both hands on him so I definitely do not agree de is a good fit

He was a really good mlb last year - lets just leave him there

Tiny dropped because of having serious knee problems. Not really a good example. This season will be huge for AJ's draft position. There is no denying that he closed out last year playing a lot stronger than he had previously. If he can keep building on that he may surprise some people.

Haven't seen you around lately.

Ah ok. Thanks. It just seemed rude for no reason other than being rude. But if he's just playing then "sorry biopsyman." :hi:

As to the US being a superpower... our status as a superpower has naught to do with football or futbol/soccer or how fans celebrate.

i´m happy about the fact, that our american friends take this role ! europeans can´t take it cause the every country got it´s own interests.

so you got to take the superpower.....and we are focussing on our strengths.....
