14' GA ATH Stanton Truitt

My crystal ball says we finish #8 in recruiting.

I would be very happy with that. I am curious how it plays out if we are projected to be a top 10 class in the weeks leading up to NSD, does ESPN pass on making Knoxville one of it "hotspots" with a camera crew as most of our class will already be finished? I'd like to see Tennessee and CBJ get the added pub of having a top class and ESPN reporting from campus on NSD.

Given the fact that we have ~5 extra scholarships this year, I would be disappointed outside of the top 5-6. Although Bama, Ohio St, LSU, Notre Dame and A&M are tough to beat right now.

doesnt matter how many we sign, only the top 20 count toward rankings

Right now on Rivals, I think UT is 14th overall and 7th in SEC when ranking by star average. Is this more indicative of where we end up than our current points ranking, as other schools have many fewer commits?

Good chance alot of those teams see their average go down as they add more pieces. Plus when it's said and done the teams taking upwards of 30 in a class will have a lower average than the teams taking 18-20. You can take it however but average around 3.4 is not too bad. Especially for UT right now.

Tennessee started recruiting me at corner so I wasn't really leaning to them as much," Truitt says.

He wants to play WR, which is why he backed off of us

It's good to know the reason for what happened with Truitt. Some assumed the coaches backed off him because he would not commit. Some assumed the coaches backed off because of Powell. Some assumed the coaches backed off because Truitt wasn't all that special.

Perhaps the coaches haven't backed off at all. They just want him at corner, where we have the greater need for his skill set. And the young man would rather play WR. Can't blame him and can't blame our coaches.

It's just my opinion, and all of us have one, but I still think Truitt could be like Mitchell at Georgia or Purifoy at Florida and could do well on either side of the ball. (Some have said Purifoy will play on offense and defense this year).

Yeah. The staff liked BP at WR better, thats why they focused on Truitt at CB.

Powell is the reason Truitt re-directed his recruitment.

Not so much.

If you take the NFL's top 10 CB's salary vs the top 10 WR's salary:

CB's-6.335 million average.

WR's-6.855 million average.

This is the top 10 going into the 2013 season.

Sorry, but this doesn't tell the whole story. You have a better chance of making big money as a WR in the NFL if you are big. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Sidney Rice, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and even Robert Meachem are all 6'3" or taller and/or big WR's. The only guys that are close to Truitt's size are Santonio Holmes, Desean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Reggie Wayne, and Roddy White. Holmes has not been worth his pay, Jackson has been inconsistent and also makes money as a returner, and White is bigger than Truitt.

Then, there are guys like Dez Bryant, Dwyane Bowe, AJ Green, Demaryius Thomas, Marques Colston, and Vincent Jackson who are all 6'2" or taller.

It looks like if you are Truitt's size, then you have a better chance at making better money as a CB. Doesn't mean that he can't, but the odds are better as a CB. JMO.
