'14 GA OL Orlando Brown (Signed with Oklahoma)

Michael Carvell ‏@RecruitingAJC 18m

Tennessee #Vols don't need to worry much about this kid staying committed: How solid is NFL player's son with Tennessee? | College Recruiting | Atlanta News, Sports, Atlanta Weather, Business News | www.ajc.com

Another interview vid of Orlando Brown Jr. He does some more name dropping. Guy says he's popular with a lot of the guys at the camp and asks if he is helping recruit other top GA talent. He says he's going after Truit, Mouhon, Autrey, Dante (sawyer?), and "alot of guys". Love how these guys are buying into the coaching staff and university, and then go out and hit the recruiting trail.

Interview with scout:

Said it was great hanging with the other recruits. They are all like his brothers and they did everything together over the weekend.

Said the group text message gave some mess to Ethan Wolf about going down to Bama

Said he loves UT fans on social media

Coaches still continue to reach him but he is done, 100% Vol and can't wait to get here. Tennessee is his home. Only visit he will take is official to UT. Wants to try and make every game to watch and recruit.

Has a great relationship with all our coaches, specifically Coach Mahoney.

Currently 6'8 & 340 lbs. He said his body has changed a lot in a good way, wants to get down to 325.

Said Coleman Thomas is his boy and they hung out a lot during the weekend. Calls him Big C.

He and Coleman are really recruiting Brock Rubke and Corey Martinez. He was teammates with Ruble his freshman and sophmore year, and says Brock told him UT was his best visit so far.

Orlando and Coleman are silently becoming a favorite part of this class to me...strong steady resolve which along with a work ethic is going to make these kids legendary

I can see that. I really like the character of these recruits so far.

Eric Ainge said he thought this guy is a 5* talent and should be rated as such. Says a lot.

Offer list looks 5* worthy. If u have offers from Texas, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia and everybody else your elite talent. The only offer missing that I look for is LSU.

I like Zeus as much as anyone, but over half of those insane offers are not committable anymore. The talent is definitely there though as all of those schools offered at one point.

If you were to cut his offer list in half he would probably still have a top five offer list of all our current commits.

Definitely. I actually was looking into that the other day because I was bored. Our commits have some good offer lists...

Yeah he's just using his power advantage.. Hopefully he learns more about leverage, because everything else is there..

He's huge, strong, athletic, and aggressive. Just needs to work on that technique.

I have full faith in our coaches to teach him that.

The best part about that highlight video is on the first play when he leads the RB outside...you know that DB is thinking "oh god...please don't kill me..." He had a solid 200+ lbs on the poor kid haha.

That was CPF's strong point in teaching OL kids to use their lower body to set a firm foundation to drive block.

Size-Stregth-Athleticism
Quite simply, Brown is a big boy -- a real big boy -- and the concern is will he be too big. Has excellent height, but carries a great deal of bulk on his frame and maintaining good functional size will be a key. He is well over 300 pounds and while his weight could be a hindrance, he does look to have trimmed down some and is moving towards playing at a better weight his senior year. Flashes some solid athleticism for his size and the big man displays the ability to get out of his stance and into defenders with good quickness.

Pass Protection
In pass pro he can use his long arms to push rushers past the pocket. When he can lock on, he can make it tough for rushers to break free and can slide with them. At times he will narrow his base, open too quickly and can overset to the outside and struggle to recover when rushers redirect inside. Can pop up and play tall, but is big and strong enough to slow down bull rushers.

Run Blocking
Struggles to gain any physical leverage and doesn't roll his hips into blocks. When he keeps his feet moving he can create some initial push but he can lean into and slide off blocks. Displays marginal ability to block on his feet in space and adjust and get a hat on moving targets.

Toughness
When he gets into defenders he can engulf and overwhelm them with his massive size. Does show some nastiness and will try to finish and bury defenders.

Bottom Line
Brown is a massive prospect who is a developmental player with some upside and ability to get the job done. Strictly a right tackle at this stage, and while he would be on the taller side he might need to even slide inside to guard. His ability to maintain his weight at an effective size throughout his college career will be a key, but he looks to be making positive strides in physical development and as a player. Brown is an interesting prospect to watch in his senior year and with continued strides in both areas he could see his stock rise a bit more.

I'm no talent evaluator, but I have a feeling this guy has the biggest upside of our 3-stars. Look forward to seeing him in the Orange!
