'14 GA OL Orlando Brown (Signed with Oklahoma)

highest risk/reward player in the class.

Maybe physically but you have to feel good about who his dad was and his offer list. Not like he's a diamond in the rough type offer. Also, we will get him into shape once he arrives in Knoxville.

High ceiling. But def needs to lose about 30lbs. After seeing this staff I have no doubt they will make a monster out of him. He's prob a redshirt candidate but that is a blessing in disguise for some kids. Especially lineman. Glad he's a Vol.

Kid could potentially be the best player in our class and we don't even know it.

He's got motivation and he will drop the weight. As far as intangibles go, this guy is top notch.

Technically speaking, kid needs to work on his footwork since he will be playing either LT or RT (LT IMO).

Right Tackle, IMO

That kid could take a dump and lose 30lbs.

That's what I'm thinking. Not that hard for someone his size to lose 30lbs. Very likely a redshirt candidate, Lawson will reshape his body in the weight room. The sky is the limit for Brown, just going to take hard work and discipline, like always.

I agree. This guy's one of my favorites in this class. I'm not sure if our OL over the next few years will be as good as the one we have today, but I also don't think it will be that far behind with guys like Orlando in the mix.

He looks pretty good at his current weight. At 6'8", I'd be more concerned with losing fat and gaining strength than the number on the scale. Just be healthy so you can enjoy a long playing career and long life.

What's a good body fat % for an OL? Weighing 320 is pretty good but if you're like 40% body fat l, not so much. Hopefully he's losing the right way.

If he is 325 when he arrives, he should be about 310 before he plays a snap.

I think 320ish at 6'8" is a good number for him at RT. 310 would be smaller than both of our starting takles--JJ and Tiny. And he's taller than both of them. As long as he turns some fat into muscle and gets stronger I'm not too concerned about the actual number.

Curious about all the people projecting him to RT, is that primarily because of the need to improve his footwork?

That and he's not got the quickness that you look for in a LT. He's also much better in run blocking which is what you want out of your RT, whereas you want someone who is good in pass protection to be blocking for your QBs blind side.

Thanks for the insight, I thought he had the frame and size for LT, but it sounds like his ability is better suited on the other side. I'm familiar with the differences between RT and LT, just wasn't familiar with Brown's skillset.

It's not like Brown is a bad pass blocker or anything. I think his most dominant trait is his run blocking though. He can just out-muscle guys in HS right now due to his size. He will be a good Tackle for us whichever side he ends up.

Run blocking is his biggest asset. That's where he destroyed the top ranked DE Williams in camp. He threw him around like a rag doll.
