'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Payne at nickel imo.

Dude is built for that spot.

This..... Athletically he's similar to Matheiu(just as an athlete on defense I'm not calling him anywhere near the player folks). His quickness and toughness will serve us well there. Also Gaulden outside would be fun. Would love to see teams throw that BS bubble screen his way. :)

I agree he will end up outside...and as you said it should be fun to watch. But I think he may start out at nickel.

Why???? What's going to be in his way again?

Nothing but experience. And I'm not saying he definitely won't be outside from day one either though. Nickel is just another opportunity for early PT. If he comes in and can take that outside spot from day one, I'm gonna be more than happy. Nothing but good news IMO if that happens...

Safety Prospects:

Kelly Jr.- Strengths: Athletic, hard hitter, and good speed. He's also one of the most technically sound players you'll find coming out. Reads keys exceptionally well for a young kid. Has great ball skills and instincts too.

Weakness: He's not quite as big as some may think. And has played against weak competition his whole HS career. So he's going to have to make a significant jump in on the field play.

Yes... I mostly agree with this assessment. I've watched him play in person twice this year and saw a physical player who really hits hard. His speed is good but not anywhere close to elite, which is why I think he'll eventually move to LB.

He appeared to be right around 6' and is well built. No idea what they meant by not as big as some think. Maybe they meant not as tall.

I do agree, the level of competition he has faced during his HS career was weak. The few times I watched him play in person I noticed that he sometimes got disinterested and took a few plays off. No doubt, CBJ will get his attention and demand effort all the time. He's obviously SEC talent.

TK2 is more towards the 5'11-6'0 side than the 6'0-6'1 like they are advertising. What a person I trust told me. Doesn't take away from his ability at all.

I would straight up go to the Iron Bowl, if only so I could remember what it was like to be nationally relevant in November.

As a college football fan in general, I'd absolutely go to the IB if given the chance and I'd wear orange the entire time. You know upper deck tickets start at like $350 for that game? Hell, that's like Chris Weatherd from when A&M played Alabama at home. People got so bent out of shape about him wanting to go see one of the biggest games of the season for free. I know Butch's policy, but I really don't see the problem.

I will continue to hold the opinion that Payne is much better suited for the nickel spot than Gaulden. But I just want to see both of them on the field next year. Our secondary needs so much help that there is room for both of them to play lots of snaps. Gaulden could play lots of snaps at either CB or S depending on how the coaches see him fitting.

He is not going to the Iron Bowl. His mom said so this morning. She doesn't know how the rumor happened but she said he is all Vol!
