'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

He really has not been talked about on Auburn boards since he committed to UT, but this was on yesterdays Auburn Rivals War Room -

Multiple sources indicate Auburn continues to work very hard on Locust Grove (Ga.) Rivals250 four-star safety Cortez McDowell and Calera (Ala.) Rivals100 safety Ronnie Clark. McDowell is committed to Tennessee and Clark is committed to Alabama, but both were very high on Auburn before their decisions. Clark appears to be a tougher pull at this point, while McDowell may still be thinking about the Tigers... and don't forget former Auburn players Karsten Bailey and Ronnie Daniels are assistants at Locust Grove. I think there's a fair chance Auburn lands McDowell on an official visit before signing day.

"There were some rumblings the last few weeks that Cortez McDowell was someone who could possibly visit Auburn or another school. Again on Friday he said that's not true and only plans to visit Knoxville for an unofficial visit this month after playing in the O-D Bowl where he had one pass deflection.

"I'm flying up to Knoxville on Jan. 24 with some of the guys to take an unofficial while the other guys are taking their official visit so I can hang out with the commits, McDowell said. "Then, after that it's straight to baseball."

He doesn't have academic issues, so we don't have to worry about AU.

Auburn has upgraded their academic programs. They've added French Fry Cooking, Shoestring Tying, Dog Walking and Car Washing to their other special athletic classes of Basket Weaving, Hair Combing and Proper Hand Washing. A much better variety of classes to offer their recruits.

Sadly their Ethics program is still one of the worst in the country.

Interview with scout:

- Currently 6'1", 200lbs. Wants to bulk up when he gets to UT

- Has a baseball event with the Rangers coming up. If he were drafted in the forst 5 rounds, he would strongly consider baseball. Anything later he would discuss with his brother

- Talked woth Coach Serrano about playing baseball at UT

- Thinks Coach Martinez is a great teacher amd looking forward to learning under him

Sure would hurt if he decided to go the baseball route in the summer, and we miss out on one of the Smith boys. I hope he sticks to football.
