'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

"There were some rumblings the last few weeks that Cortez McDowell was someone who could possibly visit Auburn or another school. Again on Friday he said that's not true and only plans to visit Knoxville for an unofficial visit this month after playing in the O-D Bowl where he had one pass deflection.

"I'm flying up to Knoxville on Jan. 24 with some of the guys to take an unofficial while the other guys are taking their official visit so I can hang out with the commits, McDowell said. "Then, after that it's straight to baseball."

You have to be better than good to be drafted in the first 5 rounds out of high school. I wouldnt worry too terribly much about that.

It's not happening from the PG ranking I saw. Not even close.

That ranking is even high enough to be a draft at all much less top 5 rounds

I will say this about PG, they aren't super accurate about the measurables on their prospects. You have to go to their camps just to get things updated so I wouldn't necessarily go based off of that. The fact of the matter is that there isn't a way to keep up with recruiting in baseball like you can in football. It's pretty much just offers and commits, but if he was worth being drafted that early he would already have D-1 offers from a lot of places.

So, UT fans apparently have an inferiority complex when it comes to UT and Auburn recruiting the same players. Poster on 247 asked about McDowell, and here is Callahan's response:

Basically everyone I have talked with recently about McDowell seems to be convinced he's pretty firmly committed to Tennessee. I have kept a close eye on him over the past few months, knowing that Auburn has stayed in contact with him, but I don't have any reason to believe right now that he's giving strong consideration to the Tigers or any other team.

He's maybe worth keeping an eye on over the next few weeks, but I haven't heard anything that would suggest McDowell even will visit anywhere else leading up to signing day.

Aub mods must really suck. They are terrible at their jobs. Always think every recruit is going to auburn and now just passing along misinformation.

Sounds like they are giving the people what they want. If their customers demanded accurate information, they would stop throwing shiz out there.
