'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

I guess he's talking about all the wins that were predicated and sh!t that was talked on here b4 that game. Not sure what he expected. That's what fans do. How much fun would it be without the banter? I will talk sh!t and go crazy for my vols every game and especially to gator fans.

I do understand that. Fans are fans at any school. A lot of them are going to be optimistic and believe that their team will win. Fans ("fan-atics") should be that way. I just thought there should have been enough serious students of football to hold a semi-intelligent discussion. Example: If I say: "UF has a good defense--I think our D-line can get to Bray before he can pick a receiver." And you respond: "Won't happen. We have a good O-line and our athletic receivers run good routes and go up and get the ball." Well, that strikes me as a semi-intelligent discussion. But when everyone just yells that UT is better on both sides of the ball and that UT will win 42-0; well, that indicates to me that the board is either 100% fanatics or that any students of the game are too intimidated to speak up.

As you say, it is your board and if you are happy with it, then "fine". We needn't try to discuss the relative merits of each team this year.

Ah, lamenting that the intellectual prowess on Volnation doesn't measure up to that of FL fans... a new kind of trolling. I'm sure you're correct and that there was absolutely no "semi-intelligent" debate.

You have my deepest condolences. And Go Gatuh...

"Plainfield (Ill.) South four-star linebacker Clifton Garrett was not able to make it out to Knoxville this month as he had planned, but he has set his official visit with the Volunteers and it will be the Oct. 5 weekend when Georgia comes to town."

- Josh Heimoldt

Nothing we didn't already know.

"Actually, I have three set up," Garrett reported. "I have the Tennessee official set up for the Georgia game (Oct. 5). I will be going down to Florida for that Tennessee game (Sept. 21), and I'll be going to Ole Miss for the LSU game (Oct. 19).

"I'm just looking to see how the coaches actually coach. They're going to be in their natural habitat -- out there coaching the players -- so I am going to be keeping a close eye on that: seeing how they communicate with their players when they make a good or bad plays and seeing how they react to adversity."

I can't imagine the fact that Antonio Morrison (from same area of Illinois as Garrett) keeps getting arrested will help UF here.

So he will be at both home and away games for both UT and lsu. Sounds like a 2 horse race...uf and ole miss just providing transportation and tickets to Tennessee and lsu games. Makes me smile that uf is just so he can get a look at the Vols and Staff in a hostile environment :)

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. Actually, he is a pretty smart kid to do that, as long as he can get away with it. Being able to see his two favorite schools play on the road would be advantageous for him making a decision. Let's hope that we can respond well on the road and maybe even pull a rabbit out of our hat, while LSU struggles.

If we can pull off an upset against UF or UGA we'd help ourselves tremendously here. I love that he's going to see us play twice, even if once is on the official visit to Florida.

Size-Strength-Range
A fast-filling, downhill linebacker who is physically ready to make the jump to the next level. Has very good size on a frame that still has room for continued physical development and added bulk. A powerful guy who displays very good raw strength. Runs well, but has better short-area burst and quickness than long speed. We like his skill set inside the hashes as opposed to sideline-to-sideline range, but he shows enough speed with sharp pursuit angles off-tackle to track down backs before they turn upfield.

Instincts/Take On Skills
Disciplined in his reads and pursuit angles. Plays square while maintaining good outside leverage on the ball. Displays a good nose for the ball. Reacts quickly to the ball more than a backer who reads-and-reacts to blocking schemes at this point. Quick to fill downhill and blow up the inside run play. Beats blockers to the point of attack with inside-out angles. Tough inside run defender who can quickly get downhill, lower his shoulder and violently take on blockers. Is able to quickly sidestep blocks and get into position in tight spaces. Hand usage must improve as he overpowers with brute upper-body force as opposed to technique. Can get over the top of blocks, maintain leverage and be a factor on the perimeter. Does a very good job of staying square to the line of scrimmage and taking away cutback creases even when scraping off-tackle. Displays good lateral quickness and the ability to clear trash.

Tackling
Physical with great power on contact and the ability to dish out punishment. Good wrap-up tackler who is capable of being a hard striker and knocking ball carriers back. Does not let up leaky yardage. Shows some flashes as a zone player.

3rd Down Capabilities
Sniffs out screens well. Does flash some hip tightness in space when transitioning and could have some limitations in man-to-man coverage.

Bottom Line
Overall, Garrett has impact-type ability and if he can improve his coverage skills we see an every-down, big-play linebacker at the next level. Also contributes on special teams and there is a lot of production in this young man.

I'd say with Garrett if he wants in you take him---but if it were down to him or Jackson for a scholly it'd be a hard choice between the two.

I know it's hypothetical of course but we would have to take both. No choice between the two would need to be made.

I agree with you---110% but the one thing is after loading up on d-linemen and the Berrys could we squeeze both in? I keep thinking that Dews spot should be open but to land both would be a dream scenario IMO.

10 bucks says Morrison barks at him while he is on his OV.

Double or nothing says he tries to bite him.
