'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

Do you understand how many players he has put in the NFL? Chavis, who has his faults at times with play calling IMO, is still amazing at developing talent.

Agreed. I think most people know it, too. As much as I want Garrett in orange, there's no way going to LSU would in any way hinder his future development.

In fact, I think talented HS defensive players going to LSU to play for the Chief may be one of the fastest and most reliable routes to the NFL there is.

I wonder why they pay chavis 1.5 million dollars per year then? He's a helluva coach who has had to face the best offenses in college football's premier conference his entire career. If fulmer gets a few of those 3rd and 1's against fla he'd still be here

Other than an inferiority complex... what makes you say that.

FTR, if I were in his shoes... I would not want to play for LSU right now if I had other options. I know there are many folks here who think Chavis is some kind of defensive guru... I don't and never have. I frankly would not want to play for him.

So if you were a recruit, playing for a team that is consistently ranked in the top 10, puts a lot of defensive players in the NFL and has one of the best DC in the nation would somehow turn you off?

Uh there aren't just some folks on here that think that about Chavis. Most of the football experts do too. I want Garret badly, he is a total stud. But I have taken off my UT orange glasses. It's going to take a lot for us to pull away from LSU. Not saying it can't be done but its an phill battle for sure.

So I would like to know what you think the negatives are in him going to LSU. Other than you would be upset he chose them over us.

Well I guess that is good for you since Chavis would never want to recruit you to play for him in the first place.

I can see where some of you are coming from, but there are also some guys who don't wanna be just another guy coming thru the system, they would rather be a part of something special and get there. Not saying that can't happen at LSU. But for the most part there at the ceiling. With Tennessee he has a chance to be a key player in the resurgence of the tennessee program and can still end up in the NFL and win a lot of games.

From some of the interview scripts I've read. It appears he's the latter. Doesn't mean he will pick us. But he has stated he wasn't to be a part of something special and to join a special recruiting class. Now obviously those things are possible at LSU. But I believe those are factors that really help us. In my opinion I believe he ends up a Vol. I've had a good gut feeling about him for a while.

Don't get your hopes up with Mr. Garrett. He'll still be a Tiger in the end. C.G.= LSU.

Connections must run deep for a homeless guy in the DC area to be able to predict where a kid from Illinois will be attending school. Carry on!

I REALLY hope your right, and maybe we made an impression and you are. But the test will come after he visits LSU. If we can continue to keep his interest after that, then I'll like our chances better.:ermm:

Only a fool would think that playing for Chavis would be bad. He's developed better NFL LBs than Saban has. His DBs are more productive than Saban guys too. Only problem with Chavis is his prevent defense.

Chavis turns me off. There are other places that are options if LSU is. Miles REALLY turns me off.

For YEARS while Chavis was at UT there was a pretty consistent theme about drafted Vols... terms like "raw", "needs to learn technique", "has great potential if he can learn to use it"....

Again, I know some of your worship Chavis. I like him. I appreciate his years of devotion to the Vols... but I simply don't think he's a "great" DC.

If he likes it there... then he will see what he wants to see. There's an element of that in every commit.

Just stating my opinion on Chavis. He IS a very good LB coach. He is reasonably good in game week. He was terrible on gameday at UT both with playcalling and adjustments. Not sure what Les is doing with him but he was long considered a liability in recruiting at UT.

So I would like to know what you think the negatives are in him going to LSU. Other than you would be upset he chose them over us.

I would be upset? Hardly. I would like to have him a UT but no class hinges on one player much less the future of the program.

But I already told you. Miles is a great waster of talent and has a long standing habit of playing down to opponents. And, I simply don't think Chavis is "all that". I just watched way too many games where his poor playcalling and lack of adjustments cost UT winnable games. One that comes to mind was that last game with UCLA in LA. They started doing nothing more than a simple 7 yard curl to their TE.... he couldn't figure out how to stop it. Their OL was a patchwork of undersized and marginally talented players. He couldn't figure out how to beat them.

Way... WAY... to many frustrating games where he was completely outcoached and outclassed by great and even "good" OC's.

Nope. That's not by any stretch the "only problem with Chavis".

3 words... Third. And. Chavis.

Not to be a "NegaVol," but I agree that Clifton Garrett is all LSU on NSD. Hopefully he decides before then, and our hat on the table will at least get us some attention, but regardless... he'd be a great get, but we already have four other great linebackers committed in this class.

Fair question, but I'm going with neither if the idea is that the team that wins improves their chances with him. Neither scenario helps UT IMO.

It needs to be like the ole miss/candy game where it's ugly for both teams
