Its crazy to think we have a legitimate shot of having a LB class of... Weatherd, Bates, Mouhon, Wilson, Garrett, Berry. Our chances of this are very good. We are #1 or 2 on all these guys lists. with Weatherd already committed.

I wasn't trying to squash the fact that the Vols have a MUCH stronger history of linebackers that kick ass..I'm just saying that Chief may be a reason he is in tight with LSU..

We lead for all but two of those guys. And we're right there for those two.

Yea people haven't been so sure about our chances with Wilson or Garrett, but Garrett just basically named us his #2 behind LSU. And I'd say we're in top 3 for Wilson, it's very likely we could end up with the scenario I posted earlier. I just hope all those are takes I don't know what the number is we'd take but I'd feel good with those 6.

It'll be curious to see who gets his other 3 officials, whether all 5 are SEC or ND, OSU, or USC get one. I'm hoping us and LSU are the only SEC programs he is seriously considering.

Y'all are missing his point. The OP said look at the history of LB's here compared to LSU, I'm assuming he's giving us the edge. Well a school doesn't produce top players because of the name its because of the coaching. So if we've produced all these great LB's then who is that attributed to? Chavis. So its retarded for the first guy to say look at LB history, why would you end up at LSU?

BTW with Sheppard, Mingo and Minter all being drafted in the last 3 yrs I'd say LSU is doing decent in turning out NFL LB's.

Mingo was not a LB in their defense. They run a 4-3.

Think this is a silly discussion but LSU recruits sick athletes and has since at least the early 2000's. They're like Ohio State but in a more talented locale.

Also, literally, the whole freaking state is purple and gold. I'm pretty sure Mardi Gras originally just had one color until everybody complained that they couldn't wear their LSU gear.

If they weren't churning out 3-4 draft picks per year their entire staff should be fired. Given their situation, I feel like they do OKAY.

This school produced lb's before chavis , god bless him, and will long after. It's not attributed to coaching. Ask any coach. It's not the X's and O's but the Jimmy's and joes. Chavis got great talent while he was here. If we do it again we will produce some great ones again. Saban didn't win any titles at mich state. Funny how the championships came after consecutive top classes.

Tennessee has a long rich tradition of hard nosed LBs with or without Chavis. WR and LB are two positions we've always seemed to be able to hang our hat on. I see no reason for that to stop anytime soon.

I really hope we land enough of these top players to NOT have to take 6 LB. if we take six, we lost out on some top notch talent elsewhere.
