'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

The last couple of pages are a great example of why its so hilariously ironic when people in this forum talk about how crazy the people in the FF forum is. We're all ****ing nuts, just in different ways.

Don't ever group me in with that forum. Those people literally scare me. Coherency and rationality is just non-existent.

LB is not his natural position. The previous no-nothing staff put him at LB. He would be a beast coming off the edge. There would be less responsibility for him there too. Some people are not adept at playing in space. It's not a knock on him per se, he's just not playing his natural position.

Somebody gets it. Good post.

AJ is a LB because the previous staff did not recruit any worthy options and he liked the position. He is a natural at DE that would have given them some sacks and set the edge better than anything they have on the roster because of his good lateral movement. He would have added 10 lbs. instead of losing it to gain more mobility for LB.

The FF is in another universe when it comes to rationale. Whenever I go over there, I already know that I will get into some sort of irrational argument/discussion. When you think about it, those people over there are actually quite intelligent for pulling some sane people into their arguments. I picture the regular posters over there one of two ways; a prepubescent little girl or an old fat dude wearing a wife beater and a too small Letterman's jacket. Both extremes explains a lot.

I just don't see AJ playing DE and being any more productive then Ben Martin over his 5 year career.. It's well known him being a natty at DE.. But you change positions to better suit your career and the team

Wait. Y'all think aj could be good on the edge.

Same guy who gets enveloped and can't get off guards and centers blocks is now supposed to defeat tackles. Yeah okay.

AJ is an LB in the 3-4. He's another victim of staff turnover, just like Big Dan and how he has no business playing anything other than NT.

Weather aj plays in 4-3 or a 3-4 has nothing to do with his lack of coverage skills and terrible angles he constantly takes. He isn't that good. I've always felt Maggit is better and faster but is unlucky with injuries.

AJ seems to be most skilled at excessively celebrating after every tackle.

I'm not sure if you really understood where I was going when I said that AJ is a 3-4 LB. It's not the same thing as a 4-3 LB - 3-4 LBs are bigger and stronger, due to the fact that they're the ones making the plays instead of the down linemen. They're also typically a little slower due to their size. It works out, though, because there's 4 of them instead of 3. 4 guys = less space for each to cover, therefore hiding some speed deficiencies that appear when in a 4-3. This has a lot to do with why AJ's a great run stuffer but not so hot in coverage.

Again, the revolving door of staff has not helped our roster any.

Really?? Outside of the fumble recovery (which is more based on being in the right place at the right time), when
Was the last time A.J. Made a game-changing play? Go ahead and try to remember. I'll wait. And if he's such a great run-stuffer, how come he has such trouble getting off blocks? Have you even watched him play?

To act as if AJ isn't the best player on our defense right now in terms of playing hard and making plays is a joke. Just because he's a step slow doesn't make that go away.

Uh, have YOU ever watched him play? Did you even watch the Vanderbilt game at all?? He was the defensive star of the game, and one of the only reasons we held a Vanderbilt offense that put up 24 on Georgia and 34 on Florida to just 14 points while our offense choked away any chance we had at winning.

There's plenty of blame to go around for what happened on Saturday, but the defense, and especially AJ, is not the reason we lost.

AJ played a great game against Vandy, but through his career he's been notorious at reading the backfield wrong, not shedding blocks, and being a grabber instead of a hitter. Also he was recruited when Wilcox was our DC, so I don't think he was brought in with the intent of being a 3-4 LB.

AJ originally committed to Kiffin and Orgeron, so def not recruited to be a 3-4 LB

Weatherd just called in to Chris Treece show trying to
calm down fan base that good times are ahead.

He's a very impressive young man whose "All Vol"

Sometimes the fan base should listen to some of these recruits who have a good perspective .

I can't wait to see this kid starting next year. I'm quite
sure some of this outstanding recruiting class are going
to be playing early.

No offense to our current players but I , for one, look forward to seeing more speed/talent on the back end
even if they're inexperienced (like Sutton).

Plug and play with Weatherd. Same with Maggitt. Then it will not matter so much that AJ will not take on a ball carrier straight up if he stays - those two guys will.

Let's be honest. If given the choice to hit the RB straight up or run to the side and grab - AJ will take the later 100% of the time. Worst fundamentals of an ILB or Mike I have ever seen at that level. Gloss over it if you want, but there is a reason he is not on any preliminary draft boards after three years of starting in the SEC.

A.J. is #2 ILB prospect, #68 overall! NFL Draft - 2014 NFL Draft Prospects - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com
