Oddly, Doug Matthews said Tennessee would not be taking any JUCOs this year who aren't EEs. Tennessee director of personnel Bob Melton, who was on the show, confirmed this. I'm assuming they were overlooking Weatherd, or what am I missing?

He was an EE when he committed and is the best JUCO LB in the country according to most. You don't turn that down either way

I heard something either on the radio or TV during the past 2 or 3 days that said there would be 14 or 15 EE's in January even though Butch has said there would only be 14 so I'm not sure if Weatherd could be one of them or not.

They were either overlooking Weatherd or meant any NEW JUCO's. Fortenberry commented on this topic yesterday...


I believe the context was no new juco players would be taken, and he did say unless they can't find one that got through the cracks so it's not like they are saying absolutely none.

I think Weatherd is a Vol unless he decides he wants to go somewhere else.

Not sure from reading the responses if this was cleared up or not. Weatherd was originally going to be an EE, but there was some issue with one class, so he has to finish one more class to get into UT. Not gonna be done until May.

I would imagine so. Weatherd and Maggit have similar skill sets. Both are more of a rush OLB. JRM is more of a coverage OLB.

IMO JRM and Weatherd will play different positions and Maggit and Weatherd will play the same position.

Wonder if Maggitt will be slid over to the MLB spot if AJ was to leave.

We are in a really bad spot if AJ leaves early. May end up being that Jakob Johnson is the one with the size and speed to play in the middle. It's BIG TIME that he is an EE.

The point Matthews made was: statistics say JUCOs (non-skill position players) who enroll in fall don't typically contribute until games 6-10. In that context, he said Tennessee wouldn't be taking any JUCOs who weren't EEs. I think, like another poster said, he had to mean no NEW JUCOs, but it was odd how he phrased it so emphatically.

IIRC, that guy has only been playing football for a year. I can't imagine him being ready to start at MLB in 2014 if that's the case.

If AJ leaves, my guess is that it will either be Maggitt or Weatherd. Even though they aren't EEs, I would think that Bates, Bryant, or Mouhon would have a better shot than Jakob because of their football experience. Justin King may also be in the equation.
