Agreed, we will be so very young and inexperienced.

I feel that Bates has a better chance of being "ready" than any of the others. Instant contributor on ST, with the potential to contribute meaningfully on passing downs.

He's a legit 6'3" 220 with outstanding technique and tutelage

Part of what stands out to me about Bates and many of the recruits the staff is bringing in is that they are very hard working, coachable players.

Bates' work ethic makes me think he could definitely earn meaningful playing time this year.

Of course, being his size and running a 4.50 40 yard dash helps.

Yes, I have high hopes for him.

You guys think Maggitt puts his hand on the ground next year? If so, who does he supplant, Vereen or Williams?

I would think Vereen just from a size perspective. That being said, on obvious passing downs, the defensive staff may have both guys rushing the edges from time to time. Definitely a good problem to have.

Chris Weatherd, who will sign with Tennessee in February out of Trinity Valley C.C. in Texas, was in that “unnoticed” category coming out of high school. He was originally from North Dakota, hardly a football hotbed, and frankly … he was skipped over. But now? Tennessee, Alabama and Oklahoma were just a few of the schools going after him. JUCO ball helped put him on the map.

Oh, and he loves Ramen.

“It’s the go-to food for everybody, I still eat those noodles to this day,” Weatherd told SDS. “We eat as much as we can when we’re in the cafeteria, too … But yeah, it’s different in junior college. Like, the crowd is a big part of the game, you know? They bring the energy and atmosphere. So coming from having 150 people at your game to 100,000 (at Tennessee) is a great deal. I get pumped up by the crowd, where (at Trinity Valley) during the regular season, the coaches would have to pump us up instead of the crowd. I think there will be a big difference watching film between JUCO and D-I, it’s mandatory to take notes. In JUCO, it’s relaxed. There’s no days off in D-I, and that’s really good to me.”

On Maggitt - think Von Miller. On Bates you have a guy that can play them all based on the situation and is really good at coverage.

I've always compared Maggitt to miller in my mind just based on size. Is that the concensus?

I love everything ab Curt Maggitt and what he stands for. Off the charts with potential and talent. He's a leader and i just hope some Von Miller type production is next to happen.

I think around 260-270 would be ideal myself. We could have a few of those guys 2-3 years down the road between Miller, Hendrix, Thomas, Butcher, etc.

Next season, we'll likely be a bit undersized. Miller has the frame to carry that muh weight though. He just needs to develop his body and add muscle mass. He was 260 coming out of high school without a whole lot of "good" weight.

I think Miller, Malik Brown, and J WIlliams are all guys who can carry the size to play SDE. Hopefully Williams can take that next step this up coming season a year in this system and having the same position coach should help him reach his potential

They are very similarly sized. Is Maggitt as fast as Miller?

Not as fast, but stalks his prey very well. Miller uses speed to shed blocks more and to get from here to there in a blink, yet can surprise an OT with a strong bull rush. Maggitt is more combo of using quickness and strength with very little wasted motion in his past performances. Both can cover underneath and flat routes.

They do it a little differently but Maggitt had the same star potential. They are both intimidating guys you want to be playing with versus against. Hope he comes back strong and proves it.

I see Williams at SDE and Hendrix as the backup. Miller will play LEO IMO
