That logic doesn't even jive with Butch's own words...
"We're going to PLAY (not redshirt) the person who gives us the best opportunity to win"

You don't redshirt a guy that is better than what you currently have. :loco: Good grief, folks.

Explain the Dobbs situation. It's painfully obvious, he's the best QB on the roster for this offense. Do you actually think Peterman was the real number two?

I'm telling you that you can't take serious a word that Butch says to the media.

That's not a secret. I don't agree with it.

I don't either. I personally think success breeds success. I think you use everything at your disposal to win every game and you let the future play out as it does. I think he knew this year was going to be rough and he's trying to manage it.

Yep. I love Butch but he is big on propaganda. Foil hats have been right on some things. They have been sand bagging with Dobbs and all the reports of him not being ready are either poor evaluations or simply lies to appease the fans and media. It's gona work out for the future but it may have cost us some games this year.

You're missing my point. THEY DIDN'T THINK DOBBS WAS THE BEST QB....or the 2nd best, for that matter.

I don't know what all they saw in practices but whatever they concluded it did not jive with what our eyes saw in the O/W game. Remember, Bray never had a particularly impressive Spring game, but he was a darned good QB, if given the weapons.

Dobbs proved that Butch and Bajakian weren't even adhering to their own statements about not being able to get a good assessment without GAME reps. So, by putting more stock in a few off day's in practice, than what their eyes showed them in a full-blown scrimmage, they set their own progress back another year.

If they started Dobbs earlier in the year, we are probably 5-3 at the worst, and not worried about having another losing season.

That's my point, don't believe anything that Butch says to the media, especially in regards to the depth chart. What he says and what he believes are two totally different things. I personally think he's not used to having everything he says scrutinized by the media and fan base.

It most definitely did. Dobbs picked up right where he left off in the Spring O/W game.

I totally understand the Worley, seniority/experience angle and all, but lets face it guys. Playing him meant we gave up a lot more than we gained. It was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Worley simply does not fit this offense. He should have transferred the moment CBJ was named Head Coach.

He is a pocket passer, and is a fish out of water in a zone read offense. That limited Bajakian's playbook severely. With Dobbs, you saw a number of new wrinkles that we simply couldn't run with Worley. Our score with Worley would have been the same as the Ole Miss game, but Bama would have pasted 50+ on us, easily.

We really need another OT in this class.
2 more, actually. Cannot afford to have as many busts as we've had with Mahoney, thus far.

People blame Dooley, but look at their 2013 class. They recruited:

Kendrick
Sanders
Weisman

In 2014 class:

Blair
Thomas
Raulerson.

Robertson was a DT recruit, so I'm not even going to count him as an OL for this discussion. Out of ALL their OL recruits, only one...Coleman Thomas, got to start, most of this season.

What does that say about their ability to evaluate, recruit and develop OL? Not very flattering, that's for sure. This is why I think their reasons for not starting Blair are just as bogus as theirs for not starting Dobbs.

It's pretty evident Blair isn't good, and has a LONG way for him to get good. Those thinking otherwise are fooling themselves

1) they had about a month to recruit that 2013 class

2) it's WAY too early to be passing judgment on any OL from those classes. Blair is the possible exception.

What do you mean by evident? Has he played?

No. This is a completely different situation than Dobbs. Dobbs had a senior who played good his first three games ahead of him. Blair had the worst OL in UT history and was brought in TO START. Not one coach in America brings in a JUCO OT, our worst position on the team btw, to red shirt him

See post above. Your situation is totally different than Blair's situation

I don't think it's out of the question to think Butch was saving him for next year. He wasn't in the best of shape. He wasn't significantly better than anyone else on the roster, especially at the beginning of the season. The first four games the O-line, while not spectacular by any means, did appear to be serviceable. Then came FL, and OM and they exposed our line even further. So do you pull off his redshirt for about half the season? You can mark this post and bring it up next year if you like but we'll all be wondering why Blair didn't play this year when you see him perform next year, similar to what we're seeing with Dobbs.

Butch is allocating resources over time. He's trying to build depth. I can understand this, I don't like it but I can understand it.

I'm so glad you guys aren't division one coaches. You would not have a team left by week 6 after you released everyone from scholarship.

I hate to tell you guys but the plan this year was NEVER that we would be competing for a national championship.

CBJ protected Dobbs's redshirt because he knows that we are going to be SEC East contenders in the next couple of years. He wasn't going to jeopardize future success to win a couple more games this year.

At this point I have no reason to believe he isn't doing the same with Blair. And before you guys get on the "you don't recruit JUCO guys to red shirt" kick realize that Blair has rare size. You don't have many 6'7" kids coming out of HS playing LT. Blair gets a little bit of a pass as a project for that reason.
