Given your choice of small white puppy avatar I'm surprised to hear you don't like marshmallows. :cray:
Don't worry about me - it will be very easy to make me happy. I want to see how CDT W-L record compares to CCM after 3 years. If its comparable or better, or if CDT takes us to the NCAA tourney and does same or better than CCM he will prove to be an upgrade (assuming he also runs a clean program like CCM and does not get us into trouble with NCAA). That will still not absolve the morons for running with their petition however. That was just dumb and had nothing to do with CDT. Remember petition was to bring CBP back?
By the way, I like CDT very much so far - is that OK with you and the rest of the forum police on this forum or is this not acceptable since I also still feel CCM did a great job for us?

I gave Cuonzo a chance...I wanted him to succeed...I DEFINITELY let him coach a freaking game...TWO UNDERWHELMING SEASONS worth even!...never once pined for his much more successful predecessor on here...he didn't do a "great" job by ANY traditional standard...I clicked on that internet petition!...I wish I had been like the Vandy trolls and clicked it 50 more times...he wasn't good for us!!...We're better off...and what's with the "police" crap...man? We do opinions on here...start respecting others for a change.

How about you answer the following simple question honestly:

Would you sign the petition AFTER the sweet 16 run?

No...and that's the point...it was a dead issue at that point...he had a choice in which way to take it...build HIS program HIS way...with a lot of goodwill and recent success for buttress...or get butthutt at perceived resentment and jump at first opportunity...he chose the second option...we didn't fire him...HE LEFT...this PETITION MOANING grew tiresome...IMMEDIATELY...to groan and growse about people clicking on an internet site as some big crowd burning him in effigy is pathetic...especially when legendary coaches like Dean Smith actually had it done in reality! All that was required of Zo...from the vast majority of Vol fans...was a sign that our team was being well coached...after the Vandy and TWO A&M losses...that wasn't a realistic perception...then they caught fire in a bottle...they played well and Zo could have built from that...he dropped it...your turn to do the same.

Geez, let it go.

And didn't the petition actually say IF Coach Martin left, THEN they wanted to bring back Coach Pearl? If I understood correctly, it was not a petition to get rid of Coach Martin. That's not even a subtle, nit-picky difference.

Just because national media can't be bothered to report accurately doesn't mean the same misrepresentation needs to show up here.

No...and that's the point...

So it follows that since you would not sign the petition after the sweet 16 run you are clearly also admitting that you were all wrong to push for it in the first place - because petition to have CCM replaced wasn't conditional on how we end up the year, was it?

When a new incoming coach has a higher rated recruiting class in three weeks than the previous coach did in his fourth season.. It is why most were ready for him to be gone. He was not building a strong foundation for us to be the program we want to be.

No...you place too much importance on it...making your obsession with it...empty...I'll pray for you.

However that seems to be the pattern at UT (CCM got Stokes very quickly, didn't he)? When any new coach comes into program like ours recruits seem to assume he will get at least 2-3 years before he could be on hot seat and are willing to give it a shot at that point because most good ones don't even plan to be here more than few years anyway. If the new coach is not super successful pretty quickly (unrealistic expectations in most cases) people turn on him even more quickly. So most coaches other the the very rare ones who happen to overachieve big time are actually in worse position in their 3rd or 4th years because a lot of fans want them gone at that point and recruits know that. Same thing can happen to CBJ and CDT - if they don't start winning this year or next at the latest people will turn on them.
I personally hate that (impatience) and find it ironic that most people who are now talking CBJ and CDT up will be the first people to turn on them.

So u r blaming fans for Zo being very lazy when it came to recruiting.....he hit on a few but missed on the majority. He just is not a strong recruiter. I think if this coach fails that it won't have anything to do with being out worked.

You completely misunderstood what I said. He was not lazy, just like Dooley was not lazy (they proved that by quickly getting great players as soon as they got hired). But after their seats got hot (unhappy fans grumbling) then they could no longer recruit as effectively because recruits could not assume people who are recruiting them will actually be around for very long. That's the problem - not being lazy.
If Butch does not win this year we can unfortunately see the same thing play out again - I just hope people will still remember at that point how well he did early on instead of calling him lazy.

Dude, if you're making $1.8 million/year as a college basketball coach, you'd better be able to recruit sailors on to a ship made of screen doors while sitting on a freaking inferno.

I think people should be consistent and not jump on/off band-wagons so quickly. I find that really annoying. However, I do appreciate you praying for me - better that than hating me (I suspect you have a soft spot for me since I can't seem to post anything without you replying pretty quickly - may be easier if you send me a friend invitation - if I accept it could make it easier for you to track me. Additional upside is that Oskie would then also become your friend - at least indirectly). :)

Recruiting sailors onto that burning ship sounds like a child's play compared to recruiting talented players to come play for you when you have several hundred thousand angry rednecks ready to crucify you.

Just to jump in here. The quick little blurb on the site to sign the petition said it wasn't to fire Martin. However, if a person actually clicked on the link to the full petition it most definitely DID call for firing Martin (and hiring Pearl immediately)

Here's a link if you want to read the whole petition. Notice it was written Feb 12

To be fair, had Martin filled the 2 scholly's left by Stokes and Cheivous his ranking could have been higher as well. We will never know. But to keep bringing this point up ignores that Martin left UT with 2 scholarships to use in the spring signing period.

Dooley was never a good recruiter.....he got a few good/great players here and there but his overall classes were not great. He didn't even go and watch a single Vonn Bell game and he was a five star recruit that loved Tennessee. Butch will be able to recruit whether fans start to turn against him or not bc of the work he puts into it.

He had gotten a commitment from a lightly regarded C prospect Alex Orokoh who quickly decommitted and then signed with Cal. I don't think he was going to change our ranking.

Yes he possibly could have but as of right now they only count four of CDT signees and four of CCM signees so it is a pretty even comparison. Especially when u take into consideration Rob Lewis thoughts on Zo's recruiting.

That would be too many worlds colliding. :)...I don't really need to "track" you...you're like a pipe bomb that goes off at a Dooley fan rally...lots of noise...no one gets hurt. :focus:

It's impossible to be critical of what Tyndall has done in three weeks, IMO.

You've run VN for over 10 years now. You know that when it comes to Tennessee fans, nothing is impossible. As a fanbase, we're convinced we know everything.
